5M Questions

Post by muddy_munke »

Can someone please help,
In a 5M to W56 Bellhousing. You use the 5M Thrust bearing. Now I was wondering if anyone elses thrust bearings/carriers, have retaining springs to keep it on the clutch fork. I know the old W56 one did and I've seen a Nissan one before and that had a spring too. But on the 5M one there doesn't look to be a place for a spring to sit/house itself in.
Does it just rely on the pressure plate pressure to keep it in the right place??
Anyone who has done this conversion should know what I'm talking about.

Also, I still need to know if I need the Spacer ring between the Flywheel and the motor. As I previously asked in my Hilux 101 build thread.
Hopefully this one is a bit more specific so might get some knowledgeable response.
I could PM certain people who might know. But putting it in a public thread means the info is there for everyone in the future :)
Cos I care

Am doing cambelt etc while motor is out so have a couple of days to sort my issues. Then I can throw it all together and plumb and wire it!!

Cheers for any help.
That is all.

The thrust bearing carrier retainer spring(s) are sort of a u shape and one for each side of the carrier, one end hooks onto the outer edge of the clutch fork, the other end hooks over the carrier, if you can't suss it out give me a call i'm off work till wednesday and i will show you, wouldn't mind a look at your build too
No spacer ring requred.

AH Bugger. I didn't get given the springs when I got my carrier. Thats a bugger. Now I have to try and find some. I'll ring the guy I got it off.
As for the spacer ring, I'll take mine out. I put it in as flywheel seemed really close to the back of the motor.

I was off work all week working on it. But I'm back to work tomorrow :(
You can come by anytime and have a look if you like.
