Still not doing anything but sitting in my chair gaining weight and camping on ORE, discovered that i have some nerve damage from some recent surgry that is going to take a long time to recover from :( .. at this point I doubt if i will be 4x4ing anytime soon
what really p*sses me off is i cant even use this time to do any of thw mods i want to do (like build a cool new custom barwork front bumper)

Know anyone with a spare steering box?

Thats a nice blonde moment (remember blondness is a state of mind, not colour of your hair)!!

What have you done to your steering box? I believe a lot of GM (i.e. Holden) and some early FJ use the Saginaw steering box the TJ has. Might need to do a bit of research on the net, but certainly doable.

Its interesting you mention it, because I was going to order steering box skid and gas tank skid next week.

Oooops. How much did you pay for the UH015sx? I saw one on ShopCity for 355 (inc.). A bit tough for DSE to match!

Can you not get the Mrs to do the work while you supervise?

Ive already got a gas tank one on, and ought to have got the steering box one when i ordered my rear bar. Seems hitting the drain might have bent the steering box shaft that the pitman arm attaches to. creaking away merrily in the housing. Its a sloppy old box anyway (no need for anyone to crassly comment on that!!) and ill take the opportunity to replace the whole thing. then again, if i get it apart, i might be able to fix all the issues in one foul swoop.

I hope you are not talking about the factory gas tank skid, I take 5 litres less fuel now than when I bought it. I am looking at getting a Toys by Troy or Gen-Right. They both lift the tank an inch above the factory design.

As for steering, well you can always go Ram Assist or something really cool like that....

She's already done most of the Mods for me  (fitting the rear springs, winding up the torsion bars etc) Arc welding is one thing she just cant get the knack of though,

Went up Worsleys again with a mate. Made it further this time but he was struggling in his surf and we were running out of time so didn't get to finish it.

Had a look at Huntsbury to, not really much there.

Broke my hub as well I think. Was making a rattling noise like something being thrown about in there when I was coming back down the hill so I turned them back to lock and it stopped. Hopefully it won't be expensive to get it fixed :(

We were sifting down there bout 9.30pm friday night and seen that f**kin landy hung up on a tree stump in the middle of no wear goin absolutley no wear. With no ropes. Behind a fence that it shouldnt have really bean!!!! Gave them a snatch out to get them on there way before the gates shut at 10pm.

Its those gonads that #### it for everyone!!!!

And some one sees you pulling them out and sees the ORE sticker on your truck and think that you were playing in the wrong place with them.

Yes we need to get these dorks unstuck but we also need to educate them and pass on the rego's etc to the relevant people.

Yeah i agree totally it was going on dark so hopefully no one seen me sniffing in the bushes to get them!!! Truck-fixer gave them a lecture
There details do you past them on to Envro Cant or ?????

- Welded the steering dampner extended bracket to the original to stop it "hinging" and resting again the spring.
- replaced steering dampner
- put the original 29 tooth speedo gear back in, until such time as I can locate a 26 tooth or equivalent.
- began designing a steering box slider.

Went out and bought myself a "Tow it home" project Pajero to share the garage with the Niva. Bugger now I have to clear a space for another bloody project. :)

Image

You will note that in typical Mitsi fashion, it comes with a ready installed tow rope. Very thoughtful. (I just thought I'd get that in before anyone else did. :) )

2.5 turbo diesel that has almost shit itself.

Anyone know where I can get some Mitsi Lockers...and an adapter kit to fit a Holden 3.8..... Just in case the little 56 is terminal. :)

which implies that he wants to keep it road legal. Last time I checked welded diffs were not legal on public roads.

Mate, if you need a 26 tooth speedo to correct your error for running 32/33" tyres, your diff ratios would be 3.07. I thought yours were 3.73.

Also, there is no part for 26 tooth speedo gear. It can be done (I had to do it), but you take a long shaft speedo gear from Durango (i.e. dealer - same price as previously) and then transplant metal shaft from the old one to the new plastic bit. Do it carefully and it can be done.

so did i, but, when the speedo says im doing 75, and the speed trap says im doing 110, 3.07:1 it must be! 31 tooth lgear took it longer, the 26 will bring it back to near enough to right.

You are lucky its a manual. That speedo signal controls the shift point for the auto. You would have been driving in second at 50 km/hr.

Thats a bummer. I'll try to dig up the part number that I used to fix my speedo. It was a fun expression on the parts guys face when I ordered a Dodge Durango part for my TJ!!!! And it fit. The guy now never questions when I tell him part numbers.

Yep different project, that's Twisted Mitsi, this one is gonna become legal and tow Twista around and probably the Red Terror as well. Twista is long term though, lot of engineering to go into that, doubt I'll see that on the trail before next spring or later
