Wopwop, sorry man, the minisrty of war and finance put her foot down regarding the 22nd... im not getting out of being dragged off to this wedding.....

however, its in morrinsville... do ya think she'd get sus about me taking my waka, disappearing half way through then returning with me shirt and tie all muddy??? actually, scratch that, it would not be worth the fallout....

there were idiots cutting up sick on the spot of land outside Cock n Bull too. The bikes were using it, and creating a hell of a mess.... now theres signs up all over the show, but still no fences.

Hi
with all due respect I would take you as a passenger or winch bitch but I think you would need to do a few more K's and a few more years? driving before you can take your own truck. I dont think there will be to many takers as this can be a truck breaker and I would only consider going with peps that are very capable. I hope, just about qualify, but after doing alot of preperation.
Ill need a winch runner

settle Grettle... whoa there ....this was advise as to the condition of the track. One gentle stroll in the park doesnt make a person a mountain climber...

The Katikati side has slipped about 3/4 of the way up. The section that has slipped will require extreme rework to open the track; probably blasting to cut in a new track section. Here is a photo of the section before it had slipped away. This photo was taken at the end of Dec last year, so you can see there wasn't much track way back then.

It is still an extremely tough drive to start on the Katikati side, drive to the slip, turn around and drive back. Two weeks ago we didn't even make it to the long bog before we had broken a jeep in the group and had to turn back.

The loop on the other side has been logged. I understand that it has been closed. I am heading up there tomorrow so will do a quick survey and let you guys know.

cheers, look forward to your report.

i was wondering how long that bit of track was going to stay there, how far up the hill has slipped away ? there was a fair bit of area to cut a new track up around the top of that section of track thru the bush from memory ?

where these guys are looking is where im thinking the track could be pushed into the bush and around the slip, if its not toooo bad that is and theres still some hill there.

Image

might pop down to the slip to have a look at how bad it is on the 22nd

Update on the Thompson's loop.
It is still being logged.
There is at least a couple of months work left in there especially since they will probably stand down for Xmas.
I wouldn't plan on being in there until the end of summer at the earilist and I guess at the land owners disgression.
Lots of really cool skidder tracks though.
Only a 5 minute walk from the top to have a look if you are up that way.

so is the "loop" a logging road at the top?

so we will still be able get up Thompson's on the 22nd ay? - just not go round the loop or over katikati side.

That's correct. Thompson's is business as usual on the Te aroha side with the exception of the loop.
