Camping in Reefton

Post by Smurf »

Hey guys, Does anyone know of a block/area of land in or around Reefton that could be used to set up a camp for a week or so?
We have a small group of 10-12 people planning on heading down to Reefton over new years and are looking at options to keep costs down.
The camping ground want around $700 for 3 tents/10 people for a week.
Would be keen on a bit of private land, with a 'donation' for the use. Or if anyone can suggest somewhere off the beaten track where we could set up 3 large Great Outdoors style tents for 5-7 days.
Any positive suggestions appreciated,
Thanks

I went down their with the family last year. About 15mins out of reefton there is a public camping spot. Tons of room for a group of 4wds. Can't remember what it's called tho. It's got a nice river running past it

You might want to make back up plans tho just in case you cant get in there cos its pretty small and it get popular over xmas time.

My old man used to own the back packers opp the hospital in reefton and pretty sure it was way cheaper than that price for the camping ground. The new own might have up the prices a bit though but if not I'd recommend there. There was off street parking and plenty of showers etc. Was a few 4wd groups through there each year.
