Extended brake lines

Hi i have a 87 hilux and i need to extened my front disc brake cable. is there any cheaper way of doing it than having to dish out $200, I cant afford to spend that much atmo.

why do you need to extend it?

I tryed my new shocks out with the jack in my garage and they get to about 3/4 extended and my brakeline is fully tight and if it goes anyfurter it will snap it

Do you mean the rubber brake hose going to the front brakes?
Easy/cheap way to get more length is to cut the mounting bracket (where the rubber line attaches to metal line) above chassis rail off and re weld lower down on chassis. Remove brake lines first obviously. You can gain about 60-70mm of length by doing this

Yes i mean the rubber brake hose. sounds easy to cut off and reweld back on. no hidden traps i need to watch out for?

i just took a look at doing that and what do you do with the copper line that runs to the bracket? Do you just strighting it out ? help

Just be sure that the diff/brakes don't foul up the brake hose when the diff comes up.
Ensure that the metal brake line can be extended down to the point you intend welding the bracket. There is a coil in the line above the bracket, you can just stretch that out.
Before you start cutting and welding, You may want to remove the brake line from the bracket and reconnect the lines together and try jacking your suspension again just to make sure you'll gain enough length from moving the bracket.

I will post up a pic of where I welded my bracket.
Now I gotta find the camera.

You can see where the previous owner hacked the bracket off of the top of the chassis. When I got the surf the brake line was cable tied to the shock tower. I'll clean up the chassis soon when I replace my master cylinder and have all the lines out of the way to get a grinder in there.

Don't straighten out the coil, just stretch it down to make everything fit. You need the coil in the brake line. You'll need to bend the end of the brake line to get it to line up with the bracket once you have moved it, don't try a sharp bend in the pipe or you will kink it. Make sure the metal line isn't rubbing anywhere when you have finished.

Be very wary when welding as brake fluid is flammable. I had a few thick wet rags laying around where I was working to cover any areas where there was fluid. Also the drips from the metal line when you disconnect the brake hose.

you can join two of those rubber hoses together, you should be able to pick up a set of 2nd hand ones for bugger all. Sounds dodgey i know :shock:

but works a treat :wink:
