has anyone been around red rocks in wellington lately ? Ive heard that there is a rather large hole there - is this true ?
Theres a couple of holes at karori stream apparantly, and theres a rusty tyre shredding wreck (ww2 bren gun carrier). Don't forget to stick to the track as you are not allowed on the dunes (nesting grounds etc) there are marked and unmarked ones and theres protected grass close to cave bay (look at the sign at the gate ad you enter from the carpark.
Theres a big hole as you go over devils gate too
PS theres a new years ORE trip around there as well

The gate is always changing, all depends sometimes what angle ya hit it at but has never stopped me goin over it.
there is a large pond type hole near Karori stream that could get ya if ya now snorkled up. pays to recon the water before ya dive in!

Got a Daihatsu Something, hasn't got a Daihatsu engine.... or diffs.... and it doesn't have windows.... or doors.... but its got tyres....

I'm with Tu's. I have been around there 3 times in the last week or so, there's no bloody holes around the gate unless you mean those upside holes, I call them "rocks"
The gate itself is preddy much the same as it has been for the last couple of years, the harder it gets the more I like it
As for the stream, aren't no holes there that I seen, but the wind does change it from week to week, there are a couple of puddles that I dived into, nothing to get concerned about though, although Tu might get wet, seeing how he ant got no doors
I think you are referring to the bog hole further around but thats on private property (just, I think)
and the Do-gooder Enforcement Agency (DEA) would write me a sternly worded letter for suggesting or recommending that hole (but it's a goody)

Does anyone use the South Makara Road - which is alongside the Karori Stream

There is a road/track to the bachs at the end but this requires key access.
I know of at least 2 trucks that have have been drowned falling into "holes" in Karori Stream....one of them being a Nissan....I would not assume that there are NO holes there.
The big bog hole is private land.
you don't need a stern letter Bubba ....just more micromanaging

who locks the gate and is the fence across the track that roughly follows the stream?

I think the block of land is currently owned by a forestry consortium, theres a new road been put in up above the creek and I beleive there intending to sub-divide it into lifestyle blocks? The existing 4x4 track basicly goes down the river flats crossing from side to side.

we are on the BlueBridge on the 5th - going to Central for an assault on a disused mountain track - back through on the 23rd on way home - will only have my half dead 33" Hankooks on - coz we are heading to a hot and dry january
