413 suspension shackles 2" lift

Post by new2zukes »

hi all i have some 31x10.5 mud tires sitting in my garage and have no use for them so i thought i could fit them under my 413 stock susupesion with a 2" lengthened shackle i have seen them on http://www.calmini.com looks like an easy way to lift my truck has anyone done this to theirs and is it possible to make some of my own as they seem very expensive? and would i need longer shocks or extended drivelines?
cheers

shackles are easy to make. Bit of steel bar and some bolts.

You could use standard shocks but will lose all your down travel. Need to modify the brake hose mounts a bit (bend rear one lower front ones).

Not sure how the 31s would fit. prob have extend the bump stops.

Fitting longer shocks is pretty easy and not to expensive.

generally speaking too fit 31" tyres too a 410/413 you need a 2" spring lift or hack the shit out of the guards - take them back too the inner guard level, zuks have an outer lip that drops back down towards tyres. the front diff will have too be moved forward on stock springs - redrilling spring perch on diff and u bolt plate. You can move diff forward bout 20mm or so before the draglink starts rubbing on track rod, easier too explain with pics, but cant be arsed searching net for them, if you dont you will be rubbing on firewall. While you rubbing on firewall there is a seam that sticks out, either hammer it back against firewall or grind it back and reweld before it splits too much too weld.
By all means try 2 inch longer hangers but remember that the other end is fixed the diff is half way along leaf spring therefore the diff itself is only getting lifted 1 inch, again hope that is clear otherwise.....pics, CBF, etc. Make sure rims have sufficient offset, - get white spoked mangels/ROH/other. There seems too be 2 offsets available, one for vitara (zero offset) and one for SJ/sierra (approx -10 offset) the vitara ones may not give you enough offset too avoid spring rubbage on leaf springs on full lock. Assuming you have modded front bumper from standard otherwise there are two "stalks" that stick out from the end of chassis that the standard front bumper mounts too, chop these back too the front body mount, the tyres will hit....
Bound too be other stuff. It is easy too get them too fit, just trying too show all options before you try and perhaps dhow some TECH too others that want too know
Theres is also body lift option, which I cant stand body lifts, so wont go into explaining them

The shakle lift is an easy and cheep option . But you get what you pay for . The draw back is it rotates the diff a bit as only one end moves down and this stuffs up the castor ( well its that or one of the other wheel alinment settings ) . To counter that I have heard of tappered shims being put under the spring perches . Also with a zuk they start to hang down alot at the front .

Not bagging it thou and I think 2 inch longer is fine ( castor wise ) and its a cheep start , so to speak .

IMO the easyest & cheapest option is just a 50mm body lift. This is what mine has with 31" maxxis trepadors and standard suspension - I needed to do a little bashing around the rear of the front wheel arch, but nothing too brutal. Still rubs a little when twisted right up (in the front, rear is fine), but just smooth out the areas where rubbing and its fine - if you're tyres don't rub, they're not big enough!

It's also worth pointing out that the reduction in caster will make the Zuk more wandery on the road, and isn't good for your approach angle. I had 50mm longer shackles on my 413 for a while, it wasn't too bad but I got taller springs for the front eventually which was better.
