THE 50
Stripped the rear axle down to night.
Some pics of the carnage
The broken axle stub, smashed bearing keeper/adjuster and shrapnel lying in the bottom of the diff:
Broke at the weakest point. Dum place for a taper i reckon, the rest of the axle is pretty meaty.
Small amount of damage to the internals, but only cosmetic
This is what the adjuster/keeper should look like:
Add all that to the damage i did at the ORE BBQ, and i've had a good month
I reckon the half shaft failure at the weekend was a product of the abuse it got when i broke the drive shaft and ripped the T.Case out of its mounts. All it need was the right loading like it got on sunday and it went "ping".
The drivers side axle is sweeeeeeeet

Hey, yeah if you don't need em, that would be handy, save me stripping down my spare diff so will have those axles for next time
My spares are on my rolling chassis, so pinching the axles out of that will mean i can't move it around out of the way anymore
Will PM

THanks heaps Tim, i modified a keeper to fit with out taking the bearing off, cleaned and greased the bearing and slapped it back together. All fixed and done
Bearing was a slightly loose fit into the axle housing though. Bit odd, but will see how it goes.
Thanks again mate

Its been a while
Here's a quick vid to prove it does still get driven, and I can still get it stuck in the most dumb places possible

More improvements to come soon

Seems to be a lack of pic's in this thread!!!!

Vid of The 50 doing a steep hill climb:

The same hill climb, from a different angle and a different vehicle attempting it, giving an idea of how steep it is

A couple more vids:

Re: THE 50

Re: THE 50
what are the two bangers like to keep the revs up DB? lots of chopping down and punching the clutch? i imagine it to be like me (106kg) riding an RM125 or the likes which didnt work out very well (poor bike)
Re: THE 50
I have been brewing plans for a while
Time to get started on The50's make over.
Its nothing Xtreme, so put your popcorn away
The main adjustments are:
LJ80 axles (they are as wide as a SJ413, but with a smaller diff head, same size axle shafts)
Rear mount the radiator.
Rear mounted PTO winch
Other less entertaining mods are:
Front guard trim
Steel outer skin on the ply doors
2mm alloy roof
Lights
Engine and trans swap for fresher units
Might even butcher the sills and weld in sliders
To start the ball rolling I need a winch like this, closer to Hamilton!!!
http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 054414.htm
The input is on the correct side for me, and the free spool dog clutch is easy to make lever operated from the cab.
