Hi guys,
went for a warrant yesterday (and passed without a hitch - first time) and the guy asked what I had been doing to my springs as the front ones have developed a "wave" shape (just visible). When I said it hadnt been used offroad yet (bugger it) since they were fitted 4 months ago he was astounded. I have a steel bar on the front and a big lump of american pig iron for an engine so this may contribute I guess.
Now the question: Just behind the front spring shackles there are steel brackets which I assume are to stop rear movement of the shackles. Is this normal or is it a bodge job from the prevoius owner (for some reason known only to himself) and could they have contributed to the springs wearing out faster? There are indications that the springs have touched these "brackets".
Pictures are in my folder (page 10) sorry cant get them in here yet - still trying.

That looks odd. do they serve any other purpose?? like mounts for somthing else?? if not then your springs could be hitting them, leaving them no where else to go so they have to bend!!! if they are doing nothing then give them the flick, will be less weight you will be carrying as well which is always a good thing!!

Lose that block if you can thats whats killing your springs... it will be my guess your first and second leaf are seperating where the "wave" is forming and it will be on the pic side of the spring
Whats happening is your second leaf has that overlap (bent tap sticking out so as the spring stretches it will slide down and catch on the mounting eye stopping the spring overbending and setting a progressive rate to the spring) when your spring compresses its hitting the block and pushing all that force down that leaf on the spring causing it to bend in a bad way
If you can't lose the blocks cut a hole in them so the spring can move back
Cheers Reece
