Best vendor for 2LTE clutch?

I have a 1988 Surf 2.4 diesel turbo, and the clutch is on its last legs, whats the best source for a new one? Also, its probably too big a job for me to do by myself, whats a recommended garage in CHCH to take it to?

It's Easy. Drop the gear box replace the clutch, put the gearbox back one..... :lol:

Job done.
Clutch Specialists are the go. Bloody awesome bastard in there. Knows everything you need to know.
As for a workshop, I'm not sure. Its a time consuming job. Not a hard one though.
I'd suggest ringing a few places to get prices.

Thanks for the tips guys. I did the clutch etc ok in the Supra, but the truck is a different beast all together. The diesel doctor said it would be around 800-1000, seems about right (includes new bearings etc)

You could prob get new clutch, pressure plate, machined flywheel, spigot and thrust bearings for under $300 from Clutch specialists. My 5M stuff was around $230 for all of that. The gearbox's arent to hard to get out. Prob a few hours work. But at the end of the day. Sometimes its just easier to pay someone!!

It's not a complicated job but dropping the gearbox and transfer can be tricky if you are on your own.

You really need a good jack and another pair of hands to safely get it down and out of the way.

If the truck isn't lifted then you might need to remove the gear levers etc to allow movement of the box under the truck.

If you are using your truck offroad then look at getting an uprated pressure plate with more clamping pressure.

Also if your setup is stock you might still have the dual mass flywheel which will probably need replacement.

I only got the truck a week ago for a cheap daily driver as my other car chews the gas and will chew a lot more soon

I want to take it off raod a little, but dont see any more power coming from the motor.

I just dont have access to the tools to do it... I can get a mate to help but still dont have a decent jacking mechanism.

Without a jack it's hard but not impossible to do, the gearbox and transfer are heavy.

Getting the box back in and lined up correctly is the hardest part without a jack.

yeah I can imagine, at least its not a multiplate clutch like the one I just did in the Supra, thats annoying.

The question is do you want to try doing it yourself, if so try BNT for a clutch plate.

If you want to take it in see Rick at 4WD accessories, he's a really good guy to deal with and will look after you.

they aren't that bad, hell me and a mate manhandled a 70 series box into place by hand, that was heavy.

tie two ropes to the chassie on one side, under the gearbox round the chassie on the other side and have someone hold the ends, use it like a cradle and slowly drop te box out that way, you can use a similar system to put it back in

Trolley jacks are cheap enough...go and get one from Supercheap....I carry one in the cruiser next to the high lift

i paid jus over 300 for a heavy duty clutch kit from clutch systems def no there shit there. i did ma clutch to its jus time consumin the only way to learn is to do it and yeah gear box is dam heavy. jus do it you'll feel beta after knowin you saved lots a money whch you could use for upgrades on somethin else :wink:

I'm set up here to do clutch replacements... if you have the solid flywheel (which your model probably should do) then you'd be looking at under $1k all up, if not you'll need a new flywheel as well and you'll probably blow the 1k figure by a few hundy.
