Would love to join you but have midday commitments.
Wrybills are still hanging around upstream of the Rangiora bridge. Around the bridge itself is ok as there are swimming holes dug and lots of people so doubt the birds will be there anyway. Yesterday I went a little past them and spotted a few birds so headed out. If you get that far up, after the Rga bridge keep to the north bank and get onto the 4x4 track at the Makerikeri. After the Okuku it should be ok although I have heard mumblings about that being OOB too.

ok thanks i have checked out the maps as to where we can and can't go but it gets a bit hard to place the spots on track. We will be careful and stay away from the nesting (no go) area's etc. Be good to see more people out there but its the time of year when everyones trucks are in the garage, i'll look forward to seeing all the new and improved beasts after new years. Have a good night all, dont drink to much (can't talk, im smashed) see you in the morning.
ill be on prs channel 19 as well in nic's (comilux) truck as passenger.

The simplified instructions given when Hilux-happy did the run a number of months ago was:
Stay to the north side of the main stream from hwy 1 to Rangiora bridge, after the Rangiora bridge stay up against the north bank and along the 4x4 track till the Okuku.
That leaves the best parts still available for 4x4ing.
Enjoy your day weather looks promising, river crossings are easy as atm, But I did rescue a surf the other day in a side stream. watch for dug out swimming holes!
