Well it was time for our annual new years trip tothe west coast and we left Quenstown on Boxing Day. After talking to the pilot at Fox Glacier we werent able to get in to our desired spot and the forecastfor our ten day trip also didnt look too promisingso on the pilots recomendation we headed to an unknown area with suppssedly a bitof potential
30 minsafter setting up camp I spotted a bull thar and then a mob of chamois. I hadnt recovered a thar in the 2 1/2 years i have been hunting them so decided to take the bull thinking he was about 11 inches. I shot him at 350 yrds with the .270WSM and ater found he measured 13 inches one side and 12 3/4 on the other.
The next day pissed with rain west coaststyle and we were tent bound. The 28th (my birthday) dawnedfine and clear and we had a huge day on the hill. We saw a number of chamois although no big bucks so just videoed and took photos of several groups. Over the late afternoon / eveningwe spotted 6 more bull thar and shot three. Alwere very similar with one horn being 13 inches and the other sides between 12 and 12 3/4.

After such a great day with two trophies each wedecided thatwe had done suffceint damage and wanted tokeep this valley untouched for our trip next year and with a bit of foul weather coming in we made the call to get the chopper to pick us up the next day rather than stay for the whole ten days.
For the 1 and a bit days hunting we saw 13 thar and 39 chamois and captured some great video and photographs. I certainly couldnt have asked for a better birthday!

Hi there penetrator,
you didn't happen to see a 15 yr old kid , with a great big smile anywhere around down there ,lol
he was passing through somewhere there,
they were to fly in to the Pyke sometime on the 27th ,
haven't heard how they doing........
but glad the weather cleared,
will just have to wait until they get out .......
lol the wait ........
