Broken axle backing plate bolt.... its stuck

Post by CHCHilux »

Just installing an lsd into my surf. Was unbolting the drum brake backing plate from the axle housing to pull the axle out when one of the 4 bolts snapped, and now it won't come out.

Does it come out? How am i best to fix this?

These studs are an interferance fit like wheel studs. They have small splines on the interferance part of the shank and this helps to stop rotation.

Rokhound is correct, use a punch and a hammer to drive the stud out.
However you will have trouble locating another one until Thursday unless you know somebody with an old rear axle assembly lying around.
