soft top care

Post by altus »

Good day all
Just got my 1st ever jeep yesterday, 1997 wrangler…and I love it!
Only thing I want to know is how do I care for the soft top? How do I wash it and what do I put on for protection?
Thanks!

Welcome and congrats on your selection. There are a few Jeepers here, you'll be fine.

I don't have a soft top, but here is something I found on the net:

How about you posting a few pics of the Jeep.

Newer soft tops on Jeeps are made of sailcloth, check with upholestry or marine shops on what they recommend.

XJ has a TJ with soft top, may be he'll read this and recommend something.

I got the scotchguard water repellent with mildew retardent, sprayed it on after washing it with warm soapy water and waiting for it to dry. Works ok, but then my top is pretty shot anyway.

What i'd like to know is how to stop the fabric above the doors tearing, and likewise the fabric immediately behind the front cowl. When its stowed both these areas are a stress point in the design, and ultimately they tear.
