Competiton Rules? B piller? road legal...

Well I've aquired another project (more to come on it later) but its a Samurai with the roof (including b & c pillars) cut off leaving the windscreen frame

Planning on making it road legal so will be going through cert process (hopefully soon) but it needs a cage in it. Currently tossing up between making one (If anyone's got a decent bender i can borrow/hire/use PM me ) and getting a certified welder just to do the final welds or just forking out the cash and getting one done (if anyone can recommend a good person in North Shore/Auckland) so need to decide on the finaly cage design and what specs to build it too...

I've been reading up a little on which classes I may fit into in diferent competitions and no longer having the b pillar seems to push me into some of the very open categories with all the highly modified trucks (I will still be road legal)

So... what competitions are avaliable I could compete in ?(once i'm no longer a poor student) so I can build the truck mostly as a club truck but to leave opportunities open for me to compete in the future should I wish

5.2 The entire body shell must be OEM forward of and including the ‘B’ pillar. Doors, guards, grill, light
surrounds and bonnet of the vehicle type shall remain readily recognisable as OEM forward of the ‘B’
pillar.

and Probably don't qualify for the ORANZ either (as class 6 anyway)

(F) CLASS 6 – ROAD LEGAL 4x4 VEHICLES
BODY – The body shall be of the same OEM (original equipment
manufacturer) as the chassis and remain readily recognizable as such
original forward of the “B” pillar.

Hi Chris

For laurie sanson you are restricted by drive train rather than body mods. If you lock any of your diffs then you go into C class which you will be up against all the national competitors. Keep the diffs open and you are in B class like mine. Being that yours will be a bush truck first and foremost, Im guessing you will want atleast the rear locked?? Or do what I have too do today and pull my lock rite diffhead out today and replace with open diff for laurie sanson tomorrow (been running locked diff outside comp season)
Nationals you can cut the body work down too the bottom on the windscreen all the way round the vehicle. You can go lower if your particular vehicle you use came out as a soft top version and cut down too that level. Which is quite handy since the bottom of a zuk windscreen is quite high. Hope thats clear(ish)

Thanks, but was hoping to make it into the A class for the laurie sanson (as will have cert/wof/rego on it ) and yeh swapping a lockrite out seems like the way to go to get around the difflocking...

Not that i can afford it, but are you allowed to run like an ARB locker and somehow just render it in-operable for the event otherwise?

They have introduced a new class I believe could A "plus" class. Basically for those that have road legal vehicles and lockers. So either run that class which a locked zuk should do fairly well against the heavier ones or yeah disarm the locker and run standard A class.
