Just guessing, but I assume orange is the indicator for new posts since last visit,
Red star seems to mean multiple pages,
I think large inward-pointing arrow means topic is open, and yellow padlock obviously means topic/thread is locked.

Red dot? Who knows! Maybe the forum has a case of acne?

Of course that's all just guesswork, so now someone can reply and tell me I'm thick, and give the real icon meanings!

hmm, could be wrong but seems the orange "acne" dot may indicate a topic that you have posted in.

I wonder how many on Jerry's logon haven't got a dot :P

This is the best answer I coud find in the FAQ section.

What are topic icons?
Topic icons are author chosen images associated with posts to indicate their content. The ability to use topic icons depends on the permissions set by the board administrator.
Ok people, move along. Nothing to see here. Thank you, move along.

All answers above are correct, but the Topic Icons feature is something different and I don't think it's enabled. In fact I can't even see why you'd bother using it with icons like this:

I actually meant the Topic indicators that indicte the topics status, new posts since last visit etc, and I seem to have most of the different ones figured out except fot the Star, some one suggested the Topic has more than 1 page but this seems wrong

ok, I'm going to have a shot at this

orange means there are new posts that you have not read. A red dot in the corner means that you have posted on it and a star means that it is a sticky topic, although I am just coming to grips with what sticky subject is

am i close?

I know, I was just clarifying what Kiwipete was referring to.

Here we go:
Image = Regular topic with unread posts
Image = Regular topic that you have read
Image = Regular topic that you have read and you have posted in
Image = Regular topic that is "hot" - ie, it is a very active discussion
Image = "Sticky" topic that you have read and that you have posted in
Image = "Sticky" topic with unread posts

+ many more variations of the above colour/symbol combinations. But those are the main ones.

A "Sticky" topic is just one that always stays at the top of the list in the forum index.
