Project Prado

Post by Disco-Blue »

Ok bought myself a 1991 Landcruiser Prado a few weeks ago. Its in tidy condition and is the 2.4 turbo version. Very nice inside and out.

So far all I have done is removed the crappy factory stereo and installed a CD player. I have also bought a bracket for mounting a towhook on the back but just need to get some proper bolts to mount the bracket.

I plan on doing a 100mm suspension lift and chucking a set of 33" under her. Followed by some toys for the inside as well as a snorkle. Im sure my list will get longer but well see how I go.

Ok... Project has been delayed while I repair the truck :x The radiator decided it wanted a nice wee hole in it thus the engine temp rising  . I have now got a replacement radiator thats in excellent condition thanks to Leithfield and will hopefully be installing it this weekend. After this will be saving AGAIN to get some new suspension and tyres.

So thanks Leithfield 8)

Spent Sat afternoon removing the front bumper and bull bar and then started on the back. Also got some replacement bolts and other bits and pieces so that i can start fabricating a nudge bar. Next thing to do is remove the side bars.

I have done some more work on this, I will post pics once the forum is up and running properly. But here are some highlights of what I have done

33" Mud Tyres on 15x8 Rims
Roof Crate ( Very Handy for long trips)
Front and rear tow hooks

I will be more thorough with this update when the board is up and running as well as will post some short and long term goals for my truck.

im real interested in the lift and whats needed..did you need to do castor correction? any changes to steering?

Add proper dif breathers to the list...its easy just need some 6.3mm fuel hose....., the diff end is just a pipe nipple and the breather cap pops pops out easily from the end of the pipe

have you added a 2nd temp guage to it yet? ...

Theres a drain hole/plug behind my drivers door and one right at the back on each side

I haven't done a suspension lift on it yet but yes you will need to correct the caster, Rik at 4WD accessories would be able to sort you out there i would imagine. What soze lift are you thinking of doing as I hear you need 100mm lift if you are going to run 33's and still get decent flex without guard rub.

most prados can runs 33 inch tyres on stock suspension without any rubbing....

these prados all feel like they are all bottoming out when off road aye,the stock ride is absolute crap in these cruisers...(on & offroad)

these prados are high enough! you only need a 50m.m lift bud,i would leave the castor bushes alone unless exceeding a 3inch lift!

get the dobinsons coils & you cant go wrong....

I run 33x10.5s under mine with standard suspension. Get no rub, i tried 12.5s and got rub on trailing arm on front, so went skinnier. No guard rub though.

Yes I currently run a set of 33's however the flex is totally crap therefore a suspension lift with better shocks is going to provide alot more flex and the truck will be more capaible offroad. Plus I am thinking about the future and possible running 35"s as well.
