Trip to Riversdale Station

Post by Weasel »

Riversadale Station in the Wairarapa

2 hrs drive from Wellington, situated between Tora coast on East, Haurangi ranges on West and White Rock coast on South. 10,500 acres of land littered with tracks from ones can drive a Subaru over to some fairly serious.

Landowner charges $30 per vehicle per day, or $50 per vehicle per weekend. $5 ORE Association fee would apply to non-members on top of landowners fee.

Self contained camping out there on very nice riverflats.

See http://mattsadventures.wordpress.com for a few pics out there.

Poll to see how many would be keen and whether it's worth organising a trip in March (gets booked out with the roar during April) or so...let us know!

Cheers,
Matt

Hell yeah, I'm keen. I haven't been out on that coast before so would definitely be keen to do some exploring.

Weasel has spoken to me about this and it will probably be arranged as an ORE National 4x4 Association trip because of the nature of the property, but visitors will be more than welcome (hence his comment about the $5 non-member fee).

How about I throw out a possible date of 1/2 March?

that sounds so official Bubba

If there is anyone on here that is a member of the Hawkes Bay 4wd club or Twin City, then we need to find them and see if they can organise a trip I did with HB4wd club last year.

we went from Herbertville south across 4 stations to castlepoint. it was a day trip and if its possible you could carry on from castlepoint through to riversdale and the station in question..

just a thought. I enjoyed the trip heaps even though I never engaged 4wd once.

With our club we could prob arrange as far north as Akitio (thru 3 stations).

I'll check with landowner and sort a date for march for a weekend trip! Keep an eye here...anyone know how we can make thread sticky now to keep it high? Or only when first posted?

Rated towhook front and rear mounted with 12mm 8.8 bolts
Fire extinguisher
min - 1 snatch strop, 1 shackle

At least AT's but pref MT's

Some bush damage may occur however shouldnt be much.

Im off tomorrow for a week so will be out of touch but will post more info in Feb.

Should be a wicked trip!

The trip is on for 1st & 2nd March, overnight camping free of charge onsite, fully self-supported on riverflats. $50 per vehicle for weekend, there will even be a 4wd game to liven things up on one of the days!

No Grade 3 winching tracks, but plenty of Grade 1 and Grade 2 tracks so we can tailor it to whoever comes. Still plenty of opportunity to get stuck, and the focus will be fun and social!

So...I know a few above have said yup...but so I know can you please reconfirm/confirm if you're in below this post. Cheers!

Hahaha very funny, I better watch what I say now, people might think I'm serous and stop inviting me, or invite me to more select trips where cowboy chaps and biker vests are the normal dress code. Not sure which is worse, or better

Someone give me a better idea of where Riversdale is

No, that's the settlement Riversdale Beach. Riversdale Station is further down the coast and I have marked the entrance to it (I think it's the farm house and sheds). The station itself covers a huge amount of area out towards the coast from there.

I based my map on this one:

which came from this page:

http://www.nzgpsmaps.com/4wd/riversdale.htm which BrentC must have put together a while back.

By the way... that Google Map that I posted up there ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ is actually one that you can zoom/pan around in and have a closer look. It's not just a screen shot or anything. Zoom right in on B and you can see the buildings, etc at the entrance.

Well im going out on 23rd Feb to set up the game as we're driving on White Rock station (next door) on 24th anyway. I dont mind personally whether it is on 1st/2nd or the following weekend 8th/9th, but will the same amount of people be missing from each weekend, therefore rendering the change pointless? I dont know...maybe the people who are coming should vote after this post here by saying 1/2 or 8/9 for the weekend they would come, and I will send an email to the landowners checking 8th/9th would be alright too. So vote away...

Mark is right with the location by the way ;)

10,500acres, can go in from the coast and right across other side to nearly bordering the ranges.

I remember Brent's visit with Manakau club, few more pics:

Re: Trip to Riversdale Station 8th/9th

Post by Weasel »

Ok shall we say it's on for 8th and 9th of March then if working bee thing is happening(will confirm with landowner)...$50 per vehicle for weekend, no charge for self contained camping so come with ya gears if staying both days ($30 charge for one day). Remember any non-members will have a surcharge of $5 added.

Nearest gas is Martinborough so plan to fill up as ya go through and take enough for both days.

Registered as keen for 1st/2nd are (so presume also keen if it's 8th/9th?):
Nailz
Mark
Curly12
Jerry ->confused...registering after already booking working bee...
Bubba
Beer-Cruiser
Taz01
And of course myself!

Anyone else???? There will be the cool 4x4 game too, just to add a little extra something on the Saturday, then we'll do a massive tiki tour on the Sunday so you can figure out where the hell ya got lost n stuck!

Just before the 8th I'll PM a meeting place and time to those registered.

Hey guys, was just out at Riversdale setting the game up and it was "dryer than a nuns @#$%#" as they say. No mud whatsoever in any shape or form! Gonna limit fun somewhat as it's a bit like driving round on tarseal! Frikkin no rain....mutter mutter.

So lets postpone it until more fun??? (ie some mud!) Any objections?

Sounds good to me. This month has been a bit busy anyway and I just found out that there's a stag do on that weekend. So might take the weekend to do some more work on the house to get that off my back.
