Already sprung over but the leafs look fairly flat to me... not sure if this is normal. Steering has not been crossed over.
I'd like to do the falcon conversion and move the rear springs to the front however if they are stuffed I'll have to get new ones.
Can anyone advise on this?
Also have to put this in....
I have heaps I want to do and now that I actually have the 4wd I can get a better idea of what needs to go where....
And the nice thing is you get to make all the screw ups - Ah modifications.
Would be nice to have a virginal truck so you can do things your way and not have to fix anothers "attempts", unlike the monster I inherited. But still thats life.
It's all over the driveway got the pressure hose to it tonight - had been sitting on a farm for ages - inside smells like cow crap... Well vanilla cow shit now that I've cleaned it.
[/quote]nice gunmetal ones
Actually it used to be red... but the respray isn't that bad.
I have removed the rear carpets which has got rid of most of that cow/dog smell.
Yeah know how it is with "farm smells" got mine from a sheep farmer and had to remove the seat covers, vinyl and underlay before making even a dent in the aroma.
took months for the smell to disipate completely, although cleaning out the acumulated crud helped.
Leaf spring Hiluxes are all spring over - thats the best thing they did at the factory... then they bent it over the sofa and fed it a length by fitting same-side steering
Never mind, easily fixed in a number of ways. What are your suspension plans for the front? The rear springs look pretty good so they could go up there - making way for the coons in the rear.
My suggestion... go out and enjoy it for a few weeks or so before you pull the motor. Its probably better to have a feel for the truck so you can a: feel the difference between the 3Y and the 5M and b: get the motivation to get it done cos you know how much fun it was before you ripped the donk out
The idea is to do the suspension first. I figure I have a working engine and I will run that into the ground first.
I have spent the past two months trying to gather the info and contacts I need to do all the mods I want. So far this website and the people on it have been an invaluble resource for ideas. I realise I am not the most mechanically minded person but I have an uncle who is a certified welder and does it for a living, my best friend used to be the pit crew leader on a V8 car team for 5 years (He is also a tool maker who can machine most things I need) and my other uncle has been building and racing escorts for years... He is getting a car hoist installed in his garage soon.
That being said I really want to do the falcon conversion first and move the rear springs to the front, and do the x-over steering bit.
I would like to remount the rear shocks in the 'Y' configuration as well...
I know 4wd stuff has these mount prefabricated and sells a falcon spring conversion kit.
I have also been looking at the crap hanging down below the chasiss rails, mainly the fuel tank and the transfer case mount. I need to look at moving these up. Is this going to involve a slight body lift as I already have 50mm lift blocks... Came free with the engine. And will a body lift involve any extesion of fuel lines etc...?
