Welly Shiny Trips

Post by Jerry »

I have had some feedback passed on to me that a couple of people have mentioned to another clubs member that "We" don't run enough Shiny trips and that we seem to go out purposly breaking our trucks...

Has anyone locally had any similar feedback? Is there a number of people wanting more Shiny trips? if so Where do you want to go. Has anyone here got any ideas for shiny/family trips?

Rallywoods and the Akas and Terawhiti are the main places we go and there is always the option to take different tracks or watch from the sidelines etc etc etc

Its entirely up to the driver as to how far they wanna push their vehicle

Thats what I thought......we normally tell people before the trip if its scratchy, or damagy and give them the option of parking up and jumping in a spare seat??? I have come across people that just want to drive the shiny tracks all day, do we want to cater for this or should we direct them to a more suitable club that runs these sorts of trips?

Nope havent heard any feedback like that and the welly trips we run are typically "harder bits optional" and do generally cater for shinier vehicles as well as the POS's most of us drive. Were a bit more limited to where we can go around here now that Terawhiti is closed but Rallywoods is a good example where shinier vehicles can come along as we often split off into different groups of capability and do numerous circuits based from the campsite and they can just feel out how far they would like to take their vehicles without damaging them or feeling left out of the trip.

haven't heard anything but have come across a couple of people who weren't told of rallywoods being scratchy, so then became passengers but were right at home in the akas ,i personally think visitors should be asked what type of conditions they would expect their truck travel in ie: are they prepared for scratches and maybe a dent or two in rallywoods although dents are rare on most tracks but gorse scratches is more common .
trip briefings to be more specific less on tow hooks................

if you don't want to scratch your 4wd you should never leave the road

maaate I scratch my Vx driving up my driveway

I must admit that a nice scenic family trip is always a welcome change from the normal trips

This reply might be a bit belated....

I have had the same or similar feed back about "ORE being a bunch of hard core off road four wheel drivers" and unexpected damage etc. I have also had a couple of guys turn back and go home (on a trip I was running) after the first hill because they they thought it was too hard

I think this/these comments are made more out of ignorance and lack of information than anything else. From what I have seen many of these first timers come along as tag alongs, mates and mates of mates. The people inviting these new drivers along has to take some responsibility for this as well as the trip leaders/ organisers

I think it's worth while and important to advise any friends, mates etc to look on the web site, look at photo's, previous threads etc so they know what they getting into. Also tell them thats it's fine (if practical) to park up and jump in with others.

Yeah, thats my point

What you consider a leisurely drive, other's that are new to it my be crapping themselves

Devils gate and the South Coast is a good example.

Jerry, you shouldn't feel you have to cater for everyone and set up/ organise it all, if people are keen to do a shinny/family trip im sure they can post up, yes everyone can give them suggestions ect of places to go and some of you may like to tag along and meet the new faces etc but do we really need to get so p.c that we need to set up trips that we are not even interested in? this is a public forum, anyone can post and anyone can organise a trip if people out there are sitting back and staying away from the trips you run let them organise some shinny trips im sure there is room and enough people up there to have different trips going on, on the same days.
down this way (chch) we frequently have several different tripos going on, the rock boys, the big rigs and some newer guys / training etc. I don't beleive we need someone orgainising it all etc if people want to go somewhere let them run there own trip.

(lovin ya work mate but take it easy and keep things the way they are)

No Jerry, so long as you dont borrow batteries from anybody, we should try to cater for all. there ARE a few clubs around who tend to specialize and that seriously limits their membership. Mind you, some of those clubs have a cap on their membership. do we wish to follow THAT path?

I for one don't want to scratch MY truck, I have managed to keep it looking like a new one in mint as new unmodded condition for over three years now, and don't want to get gorse pinstripes all over it.
