Hi all, started as this without the snorkel.....

Image

Now it looks a bit more like this.....

Image
Image

Today it looked like this

Image

Since I've had it (quite a few years now) I have replaced the clutch, every bush in the bloody thing, bearings, Shocks and rear springs (50mm lift), 55mm body lift, Big wod of steel to save my poor truck body, stripped out anything that wasn't really required inside, removed aircon system (taking up unnecessary space  ) Steel rims and 31" mud tyres Had to lift the suspension and the body so that I can get the 33" muddies on. (Tried a mates set on the other day and the fit!) Essentially my body is now about 125mm higher than it was when I bought it. (spring sag etc)

Also, lifted the body right of my truck for 3 months a year ago, mainly for fun but it is quite easy to change the clutch with no body in the way, also suspension and bushes become very easy as well.

All I can think of at this stage.

i guess i had better do the honourable thing as well and put up my new toy. Had it about 2 weeks, already got 2" springs on the way and i have my 33"s ready to go on, snorkel is about to be ordered once this weeks pay comes through. has lsd and a warn winch 8000lb, air con that works, a crap radio that only plays tapes. 4.2L non turbo, has plenty of grunt for a non turbo i was very suprised, lots of torque!!! does mean doughey's too!!!

better offroad machine than my landrover, and parts are plentyfull and not too expensive.

Thought I might as well post a pic of my Safari. Won't bother with general shots as its nothing different from the usual.

Heres the back.

It has a single T04z and an Autronic ecu and cdi ingition. There's a fair bit of tuning left to be done, ie still restricted to 6000rpm and not using the VVT so once fully tuned we're expecting over 300rwkw so will be up the top Oz trucks in the hp stakes.
Also I've fitted an Extreme Manual valve body (from Oz) so it is a manual auto. The drive train except for the hubs/CV's is plenty strong enough. I'm thinking about cro-moly CV and drive flanges as I'm currently eating freewheel hubs.
Wheel base is 104" but with the power it has I'm thinking of going a little bit more. 106-7 seems to be the favoured length for highspeed driving. It is such a handful at high revs, I need all the help I can get!!!!!

do you think it has lost much weight over the td42 engine, the diesel is quite a heavy unit must have lost a bit?
Does a EXO cage pass as a roll cage in the winch challange rules?

TD42 weighs 350kg with all accessories, VH45 weighs 270kg in same state, so 80kg saving.

The VH is close to 220kgs including starter, alternator etc so more like 130kgs saving. Cylinder 3&4 are above front axle so weight is also further back so all up the front axle is carrying a lot less weight. It is going on the scales soon so will know for sure then but it appears to be close to 50% front and rear now!
Exo cage is fine. Most new truck being built are running an exo but I'm going to fit an internal as due to wanting to do higher speed events and this is one very fast truck in a straight line!

You sure about that Darin? Mate was going to do the VH45 conversion, bought the engine and weighed it (certified scale). It was 600lb (270kg) on the dot, with all access. He sold it and went for something else instead.

478lbs (217kg) without alternator, PS, starter etc, with exhuast manifolds but they are tube so not much anyway. This is on a crane scale and I've seen the photo. 600lbs would include the auto as that is around 90lbs. The VH is lighter than an RB26DETT motor!
While the VH is heavier than an LS1 (due to quad cams) it is still an all alloy motor. It is quite possible to drag it around on a concrete floor once bolted to auto and trasfer case, and while I'm a big guy, I can't see any way I could drag around about 400kgs!

Well after ditching the bighorn mid last year, have finally bought new toy. Got this a couple of weeks ago, already had 2" suspension lift and 30" all terrains, chucked on a snorkel and went n had a play at the waimak... Pics are off a phone so are pretty bad quality.
