yeah after driving round in the surf with 33x12.5 in tyres on it i kinda got used to being able to drive over whatever i wanted, but my new ute runs 245/35x20 on the front and 275/30x20 on the rear, and i have to watch out for any little pothole etc, so something i dont have to worry about would be nice.

solely for offroading, but must be roadlegal, solid axles for some moddability (is that even a word?)

would look at the right diesel as well.... would just prefer petrol

do rugger's have solid axles?

pics of my ute? now have a set of 15x8 to replace the 20s for day to day thrashing, i mean, driving  thanks trademe....

bad ass Ute, whats in it? those wheels would look good on my batman 8) ,
anyway back to the topic, now your getting somewhere, might have to wait a little to find one but for that price you could pick up a beam axle surf, or ya could go a hilux, or i have seen from time to time a swb safari for that money privately. Have you looked at the dude from Dunedin selling the red cruiser on here, its a good price and looks to be pretty well set up(for the money) I'd say it would be hard to go past for capability vs price.

If you're seriously considering an FJ40 - I looked at an one about 6mths ago as a parts truck. It was owned by a guy who sells greenstone carvings from a craft shop on Queen Charlotte Drive on the RHS as you come off the hill on the way into Linkwater from Havelock. It wasn't advertised for sale - I just called in as it looked pretty neglected. He'd been using it to collect greenstone, but reckoned it was running really well. He said he would be selling it in about six months (ie about now) & would be wanting around $1000-$1500. I don't want it now since I found another parts truck, but it may be worth a look if you're over that way.... And I did tell him he was expecting too much for it...

petrol surfs are always coming up fairly cheap.
Im a bit ignorant about them but Id assume theyre fairly bullet proof.

would have to be a solid axle one though... too limited with the surf ifs...

i did think about a certain well modded V6 surf up north, but after just buying the ute i think the missus would walk if i spent another 9 or 10k on a 4wd...

the Motueka Wreckers have a solid axle surf at the moment, with a dead 2.4 diesel, prime candidate for a supra/other conversion.

How do I control myself from commenting on this  It would be appreciated if such generalisations are supported by actual examples as to me this just an opinion, and my opinion is that these are false statements.

Any joy finding a new truck yet NSTG8A?

If not, come and see me at work (Nelson Suzuki) or PM me and I'll look out for a trade-in that we just want to cash up.

I bought what I thought was a parts truck the other day for $100 through a mate (yet another 3Dr Escudo) and its in great nick except for a knackered head. Sold the nudgebar for $100, so now I've got a clean straight body and running gear for free! Even if you don't like Zuk's it's hard to beat the price you can get them for.

Cheers

yep sweet as, will take the trucks out next time in omarama/ote

torque ratings.

toyota supra 2jz is 283 to 298 Nm at 3800 to 4800 rpm.
toyota supra 5me is 226 Nm at 3600rpm.

2lt is 188.4 Nm of torque at 2200 RPM
3l is 183 N·m of torque at 2400 RPM

but not that torque ratings mean f all
