What to make a gas tank out of ?

Post by Rotazuk »

Hi
i have to make a new tank for the zuk and wondered what people thought it should be made from . the last tank I made was 2mm stainless as it sat under the chassis and I figured if I was going to have a skid plate that could trap mud why not have a hard tank . I could jack the zuk off the old tank no worries .

Anyway this one will be out of harms way so an alli tank would work ok but I can't weld it . i have heard talk that a steel tank is just fine but a bit sheptical about this , would be good thou to make a thin guage steel tank . Easy and I could weld it :)

Cheers

Hi
recently I have used an air tank off a truck or trailer as a fuel tank as they are steel, have been pressure tested and have fittings on the side or on the ends also mounting brackets The tanks work better if mounted "end up " ...no need for a surge tank. They range in size. I'm using a tank thats about 23 litres. Hope this helps
cheers
