Winch Types

Post by muddy_munke »

Hi all.
Am in the process of getting a winch sorted for one of our trucks at work.
It will be used for heavy pulling of Transformers (weights from 30ton up).
These transformers are on wheels and currently we use a turfor to move them.

Now, I'm just after some comments on what brand you guys think is the best. Quality wise.
Warn, Superwinch etc etc.

I'm not going to enjoy buying a top notch winch knowing its not mine!!!!
But yeah,
Cheers Daniel

would be worth looking at the hydrolic versions from superwinch 100% power all the time and you dont have to worry about running the batteries down and killing the battery cells

check on your truck if it has a pto driven hydraulic pump or if one can be fitted (very common on trucks ie tilt decks, hiabs etc),this would be (in my opinion )the best way to go commercially.then you can use a hydraulic winch which are awesome .hope this helps :D 8)

Thanks for the replies. But will have to be electric as we're only talking about 2007 Hilux's etc type vehicles.
Further develpoments through todays working days sees that we might end up just sorting it through the lease company.
Makes much more sense. Then I don't have to make a mount etc that won't be any use in three years when the trucks go back.
Never Mind.
Thanks
Daniel

in dunedin the council trucks look to use the Warn 8274
ring them on 03 4774000 and ask to speak to the vehicle maintenance department
im pretty sure they will give you a straight up answer on how they perform
better still talk to your local council in chch and ask them what they use
im sure come the winter months they would get a fair bit of use what ever they are using
