Could it be that the oil pump on the back of the alternator is weeping oil? Alternator is a long way from any fuel lines, filter or pump.
If anything was leaking from the alt, I would of thought it would drip onto the A/C pump and be noticable there?

It will be oil coming from the vacuum pump at the back of the alternator. I swapped my alternator over last weekend ans when I undid the oil feed and return pipes it bleed just under the front of the truck. Rub your fingers in it to confirm oil. If not oil, sheeet

found it, it is actually the fuel pump, a very very slight weep occasionaly dripping onto panhard rod and running accross to the other side and dripping on the floor.. something else that will need attention at some point
what is it with diesel pumps? my last bighorn leaked aswell.

Caused by low sulpher diesel. Most likely its just the top-cover seal leaking, but throw a complete seal kit at the pump and it will be mint. Diesel Services or someone will be able to do it. Just don't go to that old git in Cambridge.
