BJ73 Landcruiser FOR SALE

Post by smurf182 »

Reluctantly I'm putting Mr Red up for sale, planning to do the big kiwi road trip this year so I need something that suits my needs better. If it doesn't sell for the right price I'll keep it and mod it. Anyways..

1985 Toyota BJ73 Landcruiser FOR SALE

FRP (fibre reinforced plastic) removeable roof/fold down windscreen etc
3.4L diesel (3B-II engine), 5 speed manual
Snorkel
AISIN free-wheeling hubs
33/12.5/15 Maxxis Buckshot mud tyres on white steel rims
Rocksliders
Rated recovery hooks front and rear
Diff breathers extended into cabin

Since purchasing 6 months ago I have:

Replaced injector pump top seals
Flushed coolant, replaced thermostat and rad cap, aftermarket temperature gauge installed
Replaced air and fuel filters, changed fluid in both diffs
Changed engine oil and filter every 5000km as required
New headlight housings and 70/75W lamps
New windscreen
Replaced pitman arm ball joint

The previous owner advised this truck uses no oil or water - which I have found to be the case. I had the compression checked when I bought the truck and all cylinders were within spec. (410psi-420psi from memory). Body condition is average though no rust to speak of. Needs LR axle seal replaced.

Nearly forgot, truck has done 176000 kms
Offers over $4000 welcome. Truck will be in Queenstown until ~10th Feb then Dunedin.

I'll take more pics for those that want them.

WOF due April '08.
Rego due March '08.

RUC a bit behind. Will either be sold with up to date RUC or the price reduced taking this into account.

How easy is it to whip the roof on and off these things?

Um.. a bit of trim removal and then undo 20 bolts according to the manual. Never done it personally.

Bugger. Looking at selling the Safari for something I can take the roof off. Don't really want anything thats going to take anymore than 10mins or so but these seem like pretty good trucks so I've been keeping an eye on them.

Is there an interior light?

Interior lights.. 4 of them I think. Id say it'd be a two man job to lift the roof off, theres a bit of weight there. A rag top 40 series would be my dream 4x4, they aren't exactly daily driver material however unless you've got money to spend.

Yeah a 40 would be my number one choice. It would be my main car but I'd try and ride my scooter to work at least instead of driving it. Mind you, you might as well enjoy the toys you have! Only thing I've found with the 40s though is its hard to find one that doesn't need a fair bit of work to keep it up at wof standard unless you have deep pockets.

Good luck with the sale of this beast anyway mate. Sorry to hi-jack your thread.

Okay here's an update. The truck failed it's WOF yesterday on the following points, from memory:

L/R shock bush excess play (easy)
Install rear seat belts (I have these in my wardrobe)
Needs a cert for the 33s
New muffler required (too loud)
Excess movement in rear diff pinion (according to the manual you can replace the front bearing without pulling the diff, didn't think this was a WOF issue though)
Rear brake balance and handbrake performance (pulled the drum off afterwards, looks like it needs new brake shoes and possibly a wheel cylinder on the passenger side)

So, subject to me getting finance and someone wanting an almost roadworthy 70, I'd let it go for say $3600.
