on the beach

Post by danielroper »

Hi there i have a 1985 110 land rover V8. I want to take it on Muriwai beach but i am worried about rust. Is there a reliable method of rustproofing the underside or will a simple spray down afterwards do the trick?

Hi don't take this the wrong way as I am a Landie nut too but if your 1985 110 isn't already rusty in the rear x member, bulkhead and outriggers then taking on a beach won't make any difference!

Try to stay away from the water as much as possible - big rooster tails look cool as but it is the salt water that really eats in.

A s**t load of a waxoil type treatment inside the rails a few weeks before will help and a good fresh water wash down after is relly all you can do.

In Spain after the beach we went for a play up the river bed which seemed to work!!!

Cheers

lot of beach dudes spray old oil on the chassis ,then chuck heaps of sand on it, then coat it with oil and repeat heaps of times.seams to work on old beach landies ,must make a oily sand powder coating system lol, then degrease every year and repeat.

If you drive it on the beach it will rust. But you can slow it down...

Wash it every time - especially chassis crevices. Kumeu Washworld is handy - but you'll miss spots. Even weeks later you get underneath and there's sand falling out.

So, get some sort of protective oil- like rust inhibiting oil from propaints
http://www.propaints.co.nz/products_Industrial.php

and clean your truck really well, let it dry and spray the oil in all the crevices underneath with a garden sprayer - redo it every year or so. The waxy rustproofing oils actually dry a bit and "creep" into the bits you missed.

or buy an old shitter series wagon and use that! I have one just for that purpose.
