Nissan Safari Mileage counter stopped

Post by BenR »

Hi,
I own a 1989 Nissan Safari Grandroad LWB and recently my mileage counter stopped working but the speedo still works perfectly ive had the dash out and everything looks to be in place does anyone have any ideas of what could be wrong with it?

Thanks,
Ben

Hi, my nissan did have a problem with the speedo stopping. i took it into the repair shop and they fixed it( took the speedo in). It was a soldered joint on the back of the speedo. you won't have to pay road tax now on yours. I think it is probably between the speedo and the sender?.

Yeah i dont have to pay but its a bit of a pain wondering if the cops are going to catch you. I was wondering if there was something wrong with the electronic motor on the mileage winder thing.
Thanks for your help,

Sounds like the wire from the gear box to the speedo has been broken, I have seen that before and all you need to do it find the cut and re-join them. 8) 8)

Mine use to do it from time to time. When it stopped it was great as no RUC, so I'd leave it alone. Then it would just start going for no apparent reason. It seemed to jam if I reset the trip meter so when it was going I'd play with the trip meter to make it stop. Do worry asthe cops can only tell it's a problem if they drive it.
If the speedo works then who cares?
