LN130 surf calipers on a fj40?

Post by nzdncjw »

I have found out through this forum that the front breaks from a ln130 surf are a possible option for my cruiser front disks? Mine are seized up and I can't find any replacement parts.... Has anybody done this? is it a bolt off the old break calipers and bolt on the surf ones? I have found some surf calipers on trade me but don't want to spend the money to find out it won't work.... thanks!!

I have fixed my problem with the seized breaks... after visitinf many wreckers around invercaqrgil and dunedin I Finally found a wrecker that was willing to compare my seized caliper to other cruiser models to hopefully find a match....

The best match is the LN61 cruiser disks... the pistons are a wee spot bigger but other than that all is equal - providing both sides are done (due to different size pistons if ya do one side breaks will be unbalanced)

Cost me $180 for a mint set that doesn't need a new kit and also came with a set of pads about 25% worn...

Not bad I reckon!

Thought someone might find this helpfull.... the amount of trouble I had finding disk parts from fj40's... everyone keeps them when they find them!!!

Happy Four Wheelen!

LN130 callipers will bolt on and will give you better braking, BUT you have to get the later model cruiser rotors as well(vented). new rotors are about 50 buks each and i would expect to pay around 130 - 150 for a set of second hand callipers.

bit late i know but theres the info for you
If you already know everything, DON'T ask bloody questions!!
