I've also gotten the output drive flange for the trans off the last owner, still need to know where the trans computer is mounted as he dosn't want to strip his car but at least with the flange I can mount the transfer case and sort the drive line....
Oh the budget is about to take another hit as I'm going to have to buy a trans mount for it I thought I'd be able to get the old one off the guy I bought it from as he is going manual..... arghhh na, turns out they fit the manual box.... so now I'm going to have to cough up for one

Hey.

the auto trans computer should be behind the passenger side kick panel. The engine comp is right there. then go up and forward to find trans comp. Occurding to the manual you will prob have to take the glove box out.

Im putting a CA18DE in my toy with auto. Not using the comp for it, I'm going to make it a manual shifing auto. No overdrive but will have a switch for the torque convertor lock up to improve decent control.

Had a full day on it yeasterday, got the trans output to the transfercase sorted and half way through mounting both the trans and the transfercase.... having a bit of fun due to the fact I've got to clock the transfer case to help clear the trans so I've cut the old mounts off and I'm building some new ones

Right got today in the shed so time for me to go see what I can achieve....

All I did was to run with the trans slip joint and the UJ off the drive shaft, this will work due to the style of transfer case mount (will post this up tomorrow) if you use the standard mounts the box could be nocked, tilting the transfercase allowing the slip jiont to pull... putting it out of alignment
The joint its self was time consuming to do as the silvia jiont isn't one you can pull to bit and reinstall so I had to work around it
First I cut the DS as short as I could so I could mount it in the lathe

I used the lathe to cut the remaining tube off the UJ by machining out the weld, this left a machined (true) receiver for a flange, I machined this out of solid making the hole to fit onto the UJ a moderate tollerance fit, I used a press to fit this so it would run true
When I welded it I spot welded oposites to limit weld warp

then welded anywhere I could fit a weld

Sorry but found it rather hard to see the steering box pic, any chance of another?.

Nice one, was looking at fitting the uj between the 131 gearbox and t/case but seeing as the 131 box is longer thought mmmm a three inch uj will not fit in a two inch space.
The 131 Fiat box is longer by approx 90mm but is a stronger box and seeing as i already have a Fiat engine fitted i may as well fit the box too.
The late model Niva's have a CV intermediate shaft and i plan to use one of those between the g/box and t/case, it is slighty smaller than the UJ arrangement and the 131 box is slighty smaller so i am hoping it will fit, may have to machine down the CV joint slighty though.
How many splines has the silvia joint have? and how long is the UJ part?.

Sorry I didn't get the dimensions on that jiont I was a bit distracted.... found out I may be struggling to get my comp licence sorted by easter apparently it takes a month to process and I can't get confermation from ORE club if my dues are up to date, or even if I'm a member dosn't help I don't know who to ttalk to in the club I'm gona have a chat to Chasse tonight and see if we can sort something, all I want to do is poke this through scrutineering ( to make certain I'm on the money) and have a play I don't care about pionts... oh well I might send a few more PM's see if I can track down an answer

Got all of tomorrow to work on it so should be able to fling up a bit more... bit of luck I'll be able to go pick up some new, old saged springs for the front the ones I've got are to much for the front and allow next to no travel also need a steering relay arm housing the lada slipped of the jack stands and when it landed snapped the housing this was before I welded the steering stops on...
Oh and NM when I'm doing the springs I'll pull one of the spring plates and take some better pics of the steering stop for ya

Would be grand to see those pics, you can use spacers on the top of the front springs if you want to raise the vehicle.

So am I I'd agree they are a very under rated truck for what they can do I know silverculture contractors that use them in ithe bush instead of quad bikes.... as for the progress I've still got ALOT to get done before easter... but I still think Im with in cuuee of doing it I'll probably be on borrowed tires for the weekend but I should be there

Do you want to modify the stops or fit another steering box?, how about bracing the area where the steering box bolts to?, would be interested in one of your transfer case mounts if you interested in making another one??.

those springs, turns out there not overset, theres only about 5mm difference between the two sets at rest looks like I'm gona have to run em
The steering is all standard apart from this

they are setup so the steering arm on the hub will hit at full lock they arn't perfict and will flex but they are just there to take some of the force out before its leveraged at the steering box
After easter when I'm not trapped by the budget I'll throw power steering in and replace the whole setup, including these steering stops
the transfercase mount is no problems I'll just need to know how high your mounting it ... in my case I raised the trans up to help clear the front DS, the other issue is how far do you want to clock it, I've clocked mine by about 30 deg

While i am thinking about it, you should beef up the bottom and top shock mounts.
Will be wanting the t/case to stay in the same place so should be reasonably simple?? have got a picture so will try to post it up.

the other sticking piont is the auto.... I still don't know if I'm gona be able to get that comp off the guy I bought it from I've texted him twice now with no reply and been in to see his dad...
Got to the stage I've thrown a couple of auto's on the trademe watch list that have the computers, just incase

Have you tried asking on a couple of the nissan forums , there must be a few guys that have swapped out an auto for a manual .
Could be a way of picking one up .

You are correct, the last pic but with double mounts on both sides.
I have at least 3 or 4 t/cases and plenty of mounts so parts are no big deal.
Am going to replace the Lada tranny with a Fiat one but it is longer by approx 90mm so am looking at something that will locate the t/case and to go forwards and backwards easily but i still want to be able to use the stock driveshafts.
I may in the future machine the t/case low gear to something suitable for crawling and there is a website that has done this, i will post the link later when i have found it.
Converting the Niva to power steering is something i have always wanted to do and the late model Niva's come out with electric power steering which fits to the steering shaft and not the box, i have also thought about beefing up where the steering box sits but what to do there i don't know??.
One way to placate the neighbour's is to say if you want anything fixed come over and see me and i will fix it for you??.
And yes i can wait untill you have free time ie NOT urgent .

Would be interested in that link as I will be able to fit 33"s under this soon 31" simex's are 32.2" so after I added a bit extra to just make certain they would fit

The whole weekend access has become a bit moot, I got given the hard word, yeasterday I need to keep logging till the gear is sold, well at least untill some of it is sold so baring a miricale or Lotto , the Easter finals are out I just won't have time to finish the toy.... looks like it won't happen till the first round next season

Right fokes I'm after some feed back, since I'm not going to enter easter I'm gona have a bit more time to put into this, is anybody interested in me keeping to the $1000 budget...

What I was considering was a couple of things that are definitly outside the budget
Power steering, possibly supercharge that little motor beef up the diffs axles etc disk brake the rear axle, black box the auto so I can tip tronic it oh and some other fun bits like

Got this today was gona stretch the budget to do a set of headers

Now if somebody is keen to see me enter at my original budget then I'll finish it as I intended and prove it can be done by doing the first round on budget then I'd let loose

Gotten a couple of days spare to play on this.... after talking to a few guys on some of the Nissan forums, they all feel I'm not gona struggle to pull 200+ hp out of this motor with the levin super charger this means I"m gona have to sort the axles
I'll start with the rear first... the axles are no problem I'll just use hilux ones and respline them to fit the hard part is the diff, at this stage (assuming I can find something suitable) I'm looking at modifing the diff to run another carrier replacing the 2 spider standard one with a 4 spider unit out of something else ... hopefully with bigger bearings and sidegears ... this leaves the standard ring and pinion fingers crossed this will be good enough
What I need is sugestions for possible donor options, what boy racer cars are worth looking at

Oh and the grand limit is out the window... the super charger has just blown that

You can use a Toyota Hiace van rear diff, unsure what van you can use but i do know it comes with disk brakes and limited slip, that way you might be able to use Hilux parts if needed.
For the front, build a steel case front diff out of the rear diff housing, or see how a Suzuki mounts the front diff?.
How is the t/case mount coming along?.
