Sweet.... thought maybe spend the morning at Aotea Block and run thru some stuff there and then head up to Rallywoods look at the river crossings (maybe the Riverboys ...Tu and Cloggy can do this part), and then afterwards we can have a BBQ at the Rallywoods Hut (optional boozy night if wanted .... dependent on whether this is booked as well)

Knolleledgable people can run each section ie the failed hill climbs, hill ascents/descents, sidelings, etc

Saddam....can you bring a tirfor to show....

Thoughts?

still deciding, may be a $5 charge for non ORE assn members, Aotea should be free especially after all the beer Henry is getting tomorrow, if you want to stay and have a BBQ at Rallywoods and/or the night boozing up there will be usual charge I assume....

OK its actually the 10th (not the 8th)

We can hold this all at Rallywoods and include some hands on winch etc training, have booked it out as well as the overnight for those that want to stay late for a BBQ / or the night. We may need to test out the new facilites that we have built.

Training will cater for a complete newbie to some advanced recovery techniques........

$10 charge per truck, $5 per person overnight (unless you have rallywoods credits to use up.....come along to the working bees the 1st 3 weeks in April to get these credits).

Will be putting up a list of tasks/people to lead these sections and calling for volunteers. If you have a truck with a PTO/electric winch can we use this.

Have a think about the different situations a vehicle can get into eg half off a bank and have to winch round a tight corner etc and we can look at how we can recover a vehicle.

I might have a chat to Paul and see if we can set up a specific training area up there (ie we setup some purpose built sidelings and stuff), something like the place in Chch that all clubs can use......

Maybe I'm looking at this the wrong way but I have some concerns over this "training day" ie, who is taking the training it appears that you have told everyone to turn up but you have yet to secure trainers. Who do we have with the right experience, skills and training to run this. You have mentioed that it will be run like the one Mike run, lets not forget that Mike is a NZQA accredited instructor and not just a bunch of guys with good intents

This may turn into a bunch of monkeys riding bikes around the circus centre stage, at worst wrong information may be given and somebody may get hurt, ORE's credibility could be affected, people may die

Full points for being keen to organise it but i believe that it is far better to make sure we get it right before we run around half arsed

I thought we already had 1 qualified instructor, Beercruiser, who many will atest to his high level of experience in his chosen field

But I do agree with Bubba, in that many of the 4 wheelers I have driven with at ORE are very capable drivers, it takes more than that to be able to teach someone else how to do it

That said, could me in as a trainee, need to learn how to use my new tyres and could have the winch bolted on if ya wanna use it for the demo vehicle

I knew you would ask a question like that Bubba so here is the response that I prepared earlier, I will be passing a list of topics to Mark and Mike for approval and comment, all of the "trainers" will need to have passed Mikes NZQA course or show that they are suitably qualified....and they will be kept in the loop with who is training what....

Its not a NZQA course,

I assume that you are helping as well Bubba as you have that NZQA certificate as well?

This isn't a go at anyone, I think training days are a awesome idea

However I have been a trainer for over 12 years and I know about running courses/ training etc and just because I have been on a course doesn't qualify me to run it. I would not presume to try and pass on my driving knowledge unless of course it's my knowledge of farking it up in which I have knowledge untold.

Getting back on topic its only intended as a show the basics day, otherwise we don't bother and have potential liabialitys on the next trip when theres a failed hill climb  , If we were teaching the NZQA stuff then I would have mentioned it....Its no different to the ChCh training days and noone has an issue with them.

Perhaps if all you guys moaning don't feel very confident in 4wd's then maybe you should be attending this training day  otherwise perhaps you should trade in your 4wd's for Rav 4's or something.

If you wish to get involved help out and share your experience good or bad otherwise shut the fark up and stop moaning,

After some props for this training

(1) expired 1kg fire extingisher
(2) I'd really like to demonstrate an airbag going off, to show the danger of dealing with a overturned/rolled vehicle where there are airbags which may not have gone off, with a large head sized melon next to it. does anyone know of anybody qualified/certified to do this and maybe source one? (will video for future training sessions/other zones to use)

Bring your missus/partner to the training as well, they can join in, handy if they have to drive if you break a leg during a trip, kids are welcome to come as well......
