33's or 35's on a shorty

im in the market for a new set of muddies ive got a swb safari non turbo td42. not sure whether to get another set of 33's or go up to 35's which should fit as i have 2+inch suspension lift and iam about to do 40mm body lift. just concerned on if i have enough power, if the bigger tyres will break in driveline etc more and if it effects economy much? any help appreciated.

i have a lwb non turbo on 35's, goes fine, i try and use h1 as much as possible, it could use more power but it doesnt need it, when i mean it doesnt i mean it gets by, just rev it up and dump it

you can run 33'' on a non turbo power will be down as the larger mass to tyres being spun, bigger tyres need a turbo

ive already had 33's on it for the last couple of years and they were no worries but you know how it goes. bigger faster better. heard that doing the exhaust on these engines makes a big difference though gota do that.

Hi, I'm running 35's (Buckshot Bighorns) on a non turbo'd TD42,, does lack a bit of power but its livable (have aftermarket headers and 2 1/2 in exhaust)... Fueleconomy is ok 500k from 65ltrs.. offroad=higher clearence.. i'd never go back to 33's

Don't waste time on 33's. With the Nissan huge diff heads you need a least 35's to get the same clearance as hilux's on 33"s. You will curse every time you drag your diffs if you stay on 33's. I didn't notice to much of a power change from 33 to 35. It was still gutless on the road get to the track. Once in low range all is good though. Enough power to keep 35" extreme trekkers cleared in Thommos clay.
To fit 35's you will need to space the front radius arms forward 12mm with spacers and trimming the front and rear edges of the front wheel arches helps too. About 35mm is good. I also had to trim the rear edge of the rear arches about 35mm; but my tyres measure 35.9". Depends on what brand tyre you want to run, as not all 35" tyres are created equal.
Oh and I have a 2"+2" lift.

I had howat engineering turn some spacers up for me. Didnt cost much. I have the dimensions at home and can get them for you if you would like.

I used 12mm steel plate and a hole saw. Then drilled the center. From memory the center hole was 1".
You will need a spacer to lengthen the steel shoulder of the radius arm that the washer and nut bear against inside the rubber bush as well. You will compress the rubber to much if you don't put the inner one in.

awesome thanks guys think ill go 35's then. at the mo ive got heavy duty tubes in my 33's which are meant to be for 31's to 33's not sure wether theyd be ok in 35's or not or wether to get new tubes(for 35's about $70 each) or ditch altogether? What do you guys run? thinking of going with the goodyear mtr because they are resonably cheap and meant to be actually 34.8 inches. will look into that spacer for front radius arms.

has anybody got some photo's of these spacers??,as i thinking maybe putting longer front radius arms on my truck like land rover or somthing that is longer than my saf, as i have got offset bushes in there now but would like to push my front axle forward 10 to 12mm, or plasma cutting off oringal mounts and push the axle forward(twisting) then re weld in new position on the axle,or use these spacers you lads are talking about has anybody got some they want to sell or know where i can get some in NZ
running 35's creepy crawlers, 50mm in the springs and 50mm in the body they dont rub anywhere but it's close,any ideas

small steel spacer goes between large front washer and radius arms(positions washer back 10-12mm which in turn moves diff ford)large steel spacer stops radius arm bushes being squeezed too tight when the large nut is done up at back of radius arm.By far the easyest way to move diff forward.

hey ughh, got some quiet time in the workshop this week, do you have some dimensions for these spacers??

i gather the big spacers are 12mm thick, what size to bore them to??
also the small crush tube how long?? Outside diametre and internal diametre??

snake racing has a wonderful picture but no dimensions, as they dont want to give away business really.

I ran mtr's on my v6 surf and thought they were bloody good but you needed to spin them quite fast to get them to clear.I would be hesitant in putting them on a non turb diesel esspecially if you are going to stuggle to spin them fast. Maybe look at the maxxis bighorn they seem to clear well and are simila price (don't get them confused with the maxxis buckshot)

I ran 35.9" extreme trekers on a non turbo nissan. You will have no problem spinning the tyres to clear them. Once in low box the nissan will almost spin anything. Buy whatever tyre you think you need; you will have the power to drive them.
