Isuzu losing power

Post by teach »

My 1990 Bighorn has developed an annoying problem. Every now and then it will lose power and idle down until the engine dies completely, usually when on the motorway, even with my foot down. When the key is turned on it starts up immediately. After a few minutes of trying to rev it begins to run with more and more power until I am able to rev it at full speed. Just leaving it for a few minutes also works.

I have had the filters replaced and the mechanic ran an additive through the engine. i presume an injector cleaner.

The first time it happened I travelled 400km before it happened again. After having the filters done I did another 700km. It is now happening with more frequency i.e. 100km.

My mechanic things maybe the fuel line has an air leak some where and is going to replace to rubber parts.

Does anybody have any ideas or hints. It is starting to piss me off. i don't want to be fishing somewhere remote, like the NEvis valley and have my vehicle die on me.

Cheers

does it only do it when revving or also when idling? mine would do it at 100ks turned out to be hose linking air filter and turbo intake pipe was sucking shut shutting off all air to turbo :@

Got it sorted in the end. The mechanic rang some mates. It turned out that it wsa probably because the fuel lines had developed some microscopic holes, sucking in the air. Enough would build up to form an air lock. After the engine died it would clear itself after a few minutes. We simply replaced the fuel lines and have had no trouble since.
