another newbie!

Gidday all!

Name's David and I love chocolate - all donations kindly accepted!

Have just acquired a Toyota FJ40 and she's on her way up from the South Island hopefully next week.

Would appreciate any advice people here might have on what can be done to a 'shorty-forty' - with advice on which order to do it in.

I'm looking to keep her as a road machine and general hack to get out to Woodhill for mountain biking, take the dogs off to the beach, head to the mountain with my snowboard or just head on out for a couple of days' camping. She won't be doing any serious off-roading. So as much as I like the Monster Truck look, more important to me is a comfortable ride with little or no roll.

Thinking about swapping out the engine for a Lexus V8 with automatic gearbox just for easier road-driving.

She currently has a soft-top but I want her to be an all-year-round wagon so I'll be looking to get a hard rear sides, back and top - as well as a rear for just the cab so that I can still run her with the tray open.

I'm also thinking that she'll be needing power steering. Anyone done this before and got any pointers for me?

Especially which wreckers / suppliers to use (doesn't have to be in the Auckland region as I travel a lot and can pick up on my journeys).

Here are some pics of the beastie:
