2.4 TD surf

Hi My son has just purchased the above and found the thing doesnt really get going til about 3000 RPM. The green boost light doesnt come on until these revs also. Everything sounds fine with no weird whines rattles or clatters. Any suggestions re the late boost and a possible check/fix would be appreciated. Thanks Alan

need to know what motor is has. the boost fix mentioned before only apply to 2lt not 2lt-e.

usual things first, disable egr and egr butterfly.

then check hoses to boost sensor/switchs and boost compensator. commonly splits just by the intake. also clean out the filter thingy on that vac line.

failing that possibly fuel issue.

btw is that lack of boost recored in 5th gear or 1st? usually it takes a longer time to get boost up in the lower gears.
fitting a boost gauge helps to as the green light is not always reliable.

Thanks for the suggestions. It is an 87 2.4 TD so not sure of the exact designation. Will have a look tomorrow and check allthe hoses etc for restrictions or leaks.

Sorry forgot to add it seems to not boost until 3000 in all gears. It just means you have to hang on to the gears longer.

it will be a 2lt most likly a 2lt(1) (roller rocker valve train). i can't remember if they have egr system on the early ones.
