Description: this trip will go round Wainui Coast stopping at Ocean Beach for Lunch, then it’s a 45min on the road to the entrance to Sutherlands Track where we will go to the Sutherlands HUT* for the night, limited space avaliable in the hut in the snoring section only, otherwise bring a tent or sleep in your truck. From there its out and over the rimutaka's . There may be an optional back round the Wainui coast if there is interest. There aren't really many 'play' area's there but these are optional and you will be shown where these are. Please be aware there are area's we need to keep off so please keep to the track…we will let you know where you can play. If theres a good pub there perhaps we can stop there on the way back in Martinborough?

* Yes we are staying at the Hut, not the Lodge which means that we will be roughing it  so bring your blankie or your teddy if you get scared easily.

Count me in Jerry. Finally another trip where I don't need to drive very far from my mansion in "elite" Wainui to get to the startline.

This will be a grade 1-2 trip (1 = Shiny .... 5 = Hard Yakka)

We have access to some farmland over there so we may be able to camp out there for the night if desired, there may be some play areas there as well....

Hi all...

I'm about to sort out access to Sutherlands Track, there are a few pre-requisites we need to adhere to

The trip is open to all except Absolute Novice Drivers (No offroad experience) unfortunatley A.N.D are a breach of ARAC Wairarapa's safety plan for Sutherlands Track..all drivers must have a current class 1 license

Also the following safety equipment MUST BE CARRIED BY ALL VEHICLES... NO EXCEPTIONS... if vehicles turn up without the following they WILL be turned away... Sorry

First-aid kit
Fire Extinguisher
Recovery Strop
Rated Tow Hooks Front and Rear (or Pintle)
Roll Cage for open top vehicles
Spade/Shovel
Suitlable tool kit
Spare Wheel
Wheel changing equipment

In addition, amongst the members of the trip, there must be at least one cellphone, One vehicle equipped with a winch, one extended first-aid kit (to a workplace standard) and a first-aid manual.

Cheers

sounds pretty good. just saw the roll bars on soft top part. does that count an escudo with no seats in the back?

front seats are covered by the standard roll bar

Image

just an example

should be ok for the tow hooks (getting them on this week), first aid kit etc

All these things will be checked at the meeting point when we extract $$$ out of you  , if you are not sure maybe put a pic up of it  Make sure all your gear is secured in your vehicle too, thinking for mine all the heavy stuff stropped down or tied down (it normally is) with my blankie over the top and a cargo net to keep it all in place....

Just an update on this trip, We can't get into Sutherlands Track because
of a prior booking we weren't aware of, so we will be looking at running
a shiny day trip from Wainui Beach to Ocean Beach. At Ocean beach we can
stop for a BBQ and some fishing and burying Nissans and Landrovers in
the Sand (and their owners). And return back the way we came. The
Sutherlands track trip will be postponed for a very short time (more on
this later), Meeting time and point is unchanged.

Perhaps we can have a beer night that weekend as well?

We are looking at organising a 2nd day trip for this weekend.....Odlins
Rd has been suggested, otherwise it may be somewhere else

Options are to camp out at ocean beach, otherwise we can spend the afternoon fishing etc there and then cruise over to NizSafari's farm he has access to for the night (note we can't chew it up), then we head back thru Ocean beach to Waini coast. Another option is the hut between ocean beach and wainui coast IF i can get access to it

If we did Friday to Sat that mean we could do another trip on Sunday or Monday????????

What do the other trip leaders think?????

HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE COMING TO THIS TRIP (So we have an idea of numbers)
