MAXIE BUCKSHOT TYRES ?????ARE THEY ANY GOOD

I am looking at buying a set of 35x12,5x15 maxie buckshot tyres I want them as a duel perpose tyre but they will be used about 70% off road," ARE THEY ANY GOOD"And what sort of milage can you expept,

Also where is the best and cheapest place to buy them.

I ran them on a Vitara, and they worked well in all the conditions we encountered . My 'cruiser also has them, 33 x12.5 x15 is what we have fitted, once again they gave good performance, and around 25-30,000 k's so far and about 1/3-1/4 left (about 10-12mm at a quick guess) We mainly go into papa, where not too many tyres will work, but they seem as good/slightly better than most. They have a decent void area, and clear quite well. There are about 3-4 other 'cruisers that seem to have just "shown up" in town, they have them, and all seem to be happy with them, at least that is the impression I get "on the grapevine".
We have bought a set of the Maxxis Bighorn, I anticipate they will work even better than the Buckshot Mudder, as they have a more agressive pattern, better staggered lug pattern on the sides, plus the side wall wrap around protectors/rut climbers (not too sure of the correct terminology)
It is going to depend on the type of terrain you intend to use them on, but I have been happy with them, and I can't wait for Easter to see how the Bighorn go.

I have a set of Buckshots that I use as my "road" tyres now that I have the Mudzillas. I would recommend going with the Bighorns as they have some lugs on the sidewall which make a big difference. The Buckshots are hopeless for getting out of ruts and stuff, but not a bad tyre. The Bighorns would definitely be my preferred choice if I wasn't going to a speciality offroad tyre like the Creepy Crawler or Trepador.

yea ive had buckshots on my swb saf for a while now getting down going to replace very shortly. might go goodyear mtrs and from 33's to 35's. the buckshots have served me well tho and lasted about 40 000km. but are pretty much road tyres now. if you dont go maxxis check out savero tyres.

I HAVE LOOKED AT SAVERO TYRES ABOUT THE SAME PRICE LIKE EVERYTHING HOW GOOD THEY WEAR AND WHAT THEY ARE LIKE OFF ROAD, NOW IT'S LOOKING LIKE 35X12.5X15 BIGHORNS I LIKE THE SIDE LUGS ON THE BIGHORNS

I found my 32" buckshots were rubbish on my GQ, and sidewalls seemed very exposed, they were always getting cuts/nicks in them.
Found them bad in clay, and worse on wet rocky terrain (West Coast).
I'd spend the extra on the Bighorns, which I would've gone for if they were as cheap as the Goodyears

I got 35k out of the buckshots before I went BFG, and they were only half worn when sold

I can't say I've really use my 33" buckshots off road much, but as a road tyre they are awesome.

I've had them on my BJ74 for about 15000km and now on my 80 series VX for about 7000km and honestly they still look like new, so theres no complaints from me about the wear factor.

The road mileage was my main concurn, I know I started with buckshots but now have now switched to bighorns because of the side wall lugs and the 35's have 17mm of tread compared with BFG's 15mm, 35'x12.5x15 bighorns should do me keep me going for a couple of years.

Used my Bighorns off road today, and although it was fairly dry, they performed really well . Loads of grip on steep inclines with a surface of grass and loose soil. There were a few damp/greasy parts, and once again they worked well. We did find some wet areas (soft wet and soft sticky mud) and they self cleaned and dug very very well. I ran them at 15psi off road, they "bagged out" better than the BuckShot mudder too.
I ran them at 35psi on the road, as I did my BuckShot Mudders (to preserve the side lugs), they drove/handled very well.
I hope to try them in more mud as soon as we get some rain.....

as a side note

I've had my mudders on a BJ74 and my 80 series as mentioned earlier and I have always ran them at 25 psi on the road.

they stick like glue and seem to wear excellently

What the go with tubes in the bighorns heard they are a no go. Hwd you find the good years?

I tubed mine, the ribs are not too bad inside the Bighorn, or Buckshot Mudder either, and I am sure the guys who mounted them would have warned me if they were too big and would damage the tube. I got heavy Duty tubes from one of our suppliers, and had no problems on our maiden trip with them over Easter.
As a word of caution, I was warned by the Wanganui 4x4 club president that fitting tubes to tyres marked tubeless could/would void your insurance in case of a crash, if it could be confirmed they contributed to or caused the crash, and if someone was injured you could potentially face charges for an illegal fitment or something to that effect, it was over a year ago this was mentioned to me, so I can't recall all the ins and outs now.
Despite this, I have tubes fitted, mainly because I can't afford beadlocks yet.

I have borrowed mates bighorns and buckshots, they are rubbish, don't clear in mud, to soft. but in saying that, for a 50/50 tyre I'm shore they are ok.

i run 33 buckshot great if you drop pressure down to 8 to 10psi will climb anywhere mud or rock although they are very soft sidewall and do cut up a lot bighorns are coming next

I've run buckshot 33x12.5s on my 70 series for the last 40,000kms. I've had 1 puncture, and spun a tyre off the rim feeding it in deep gravel. Driven them on deep soft sand and had no trouble, good in mud, no probs with clay, good handling on road, the only thing I don't like about them is they are totally hopeless at driving out of wet ruts. Even low ruts on farm tracks.

Have an uncle down on the west coast, he's a bit rugged, got a solid axle prado like mine, he's done 60,000ks on his set of buckshot mudders, alot of mixed driving, or so he reckons. Maybe he's just been drinking too much white lightning. They are still warrentable.

2.5 tonne VX cruiser, done about 10000kms on them and 5000kms before that on a BJ74 cruiser.

they still look new

Worked fine on my cruiser too, good k's, about 30,000 to date, and still have 10mm on them.
Only complaint I have is they won't climb out of ruts. Never cut on, or had issues with my sidewalls. Have gone to Bighorns now, they bag out better than Buckshots, but I found the Buckshot to be a good allrounder really.

How long lasting on the road are the bighorns?

Ive had 31's and currently have 33's and I dont have any issue with them whatsoever. I run them down as far as 14psi (tubeless) and they perform well. Only issue I would have, and has already been stated, is the lack of sidebite to drive out of ruts. When considering $250.00 for a buckshot, or $390.00 for say a kl-71, Id have no problem taking the buckshot again. Also been quoted $390.00 for a Wrangler MT/r too...... for the price difference, Id still take the buckshot. Value for money they wont let you down.

Thing I notice about tyres and tyre choice is that sometimes it seems that what is considered "best", is also what all the cool kids have. They seem to be a part of a fashion statement. 2 years ago everyone had to have the MT/Rs, 2 years before that the in tyre was the BFG.
