overdrives 90s

Post by Graham Vasey »

Hello I have a 2.5 petrol 90 with a 1:4 transfer box. Trying to find ways to get a better mpg without having to replace the engine with a diesel. Been looking at overdrives but I am on a bit of a buget. Is there any second hand od's which will fit, or can be modified?

An overdrive for a 90 would be very rare and if you did find one then bloody expensive.
For better road gearing use a 1.22 ratio transfer case from a Discovery or Range Rover. Low ratio still same as your current one but is geared slightly higher for the road.

Have a look at this website for ratios http://www.expeditionlandrover.info/gear_ratio.htm
Going by that website info your transfer box has been changed should have a 1.67 in it
You could also change diff ratios
