our snap-on dealer is a dick head

seems to be nationally as its the same here and when he did show up, replaced the small snap ring on my rattle gun which he sold me weeks earlier( life time warranty???) then charged me for it. ($1.00 plus fitting $5.00) Great tools bullshit service Use to buy thousands $ per year ........now shove it !!!

Seems to be the way of it. I have a lot of Snap On gear from my machine setting days, but now its getting older and things are starting to wear out its all pay pay pay. Apparently the screwdriver WAS used as a prybar or chisel (not!) and thats why the blade snapped off... and the ratchet rebuild kits aren't covered under the lifetime warranty and so on and so on...

Powerbuilt tools are proving to be just as strong and much cheaper. Also more convenient, since I like Repco... Kind of like Tim the tool man at his hardware shop... you can often find me drinking coffee and holding up the counter of a Repco store... admiring the new Powerbuilt tool I'm probably going to be talked into buying before I leave :P

Gee's thats not saying much for snap on  I wouldn't touch powerbuilt with a barge pole! they just don't make em strong enough! there circlip plires bend, spanners spread when the going gets tough, I could list more  ... Blackwoods Paykels droped the brand becouse they got sick of the returns!! I've put all mine in the work toolbox, that way if it gets nicked or lost it won't make me cry

If you want a good cheap brand try your local trade guip dealer and have a look at Tein Tools, I've spread some of there spanners but to do it I had to really pain them way past what "budgetbuilt" would have handled :P

Yeah I must admit the Powerbuilt spanners are rubbish, believe it or not I buy Repco brand spanners for my larger ones now... they are proving to handle my abuse quite well in the larger sizes and are similar in appearance to the Snap On ones - ie nice and shiney, so easy to clean. All my smaller ones thru to about 17mm are Snap On - about the only Snap On things I still really like...

Other than that, I work my tools pretty hard so I'm amazed to hear you think Powerbuilt is rubbish... I've had no problems other than an ez-out that snapped.

The other spanner brand I've had really good mileage out of is Teng Tools. They've been around a while and I've abused them good and proper, but the only problem I've had with them is that I've lost most of the useful sizes from my set

 I ment Teng.... (the one subject I could never pass at school bites me in the a$$ again)

 I"ve killed 3 out of 4 circlip plyers the tips just bend, grind new pionts and they breakoff (also viods warrenty  ) spread the 17mm spanner by hand!, snapped the 19mm ring end... had to jump on it to do it tho , bent and buggered all the ends for the slide hammer, since made my own that are a lot tougher 8), I'm on my third 19mm rachet spanner (one of the few things I wont give up, they are just brillant!!), snapped one side of the jaws of both the side cutter and plyer did a deal after the second time I did the side cutters and the Tool Shop swopped them for Stahwilly :D :D Killed my impact driver first time  and no I wasn't using a big hammer  now you can see why I don't buy budgetbuilt

As for Repco brand that stuff has surprised me! I've had a meter long bar on a 3/8 power bar of ther'se and it didn't die, even after I jumped on it!!
