Hi , I have perused these forums for wee while now but never posted because I could find the answer without doing that.
Now, I dont feel like spending ages looking so thought it might be a good idea to just register and ask a question instead.
Ok.. all that waffle out of the way... heres some more..
Ive got a Nissan Terrano 1995, I dont think its the widebody one, but its got the wide body dashboard and disk brakes all round so Im guessing its either been crashed and repaired (dont think so) or some kind of upgrade model from most of the ones i have seen of similar shape and year etc.
Its a bit of a scruffy ol thing but it goes well so and it suits my mix of general day to day transport and medium level weekend/ holiday bush bashing, and to top it off its not too bad on the juice/comfortable/practical. I do wish it had the exterior spare wheel holder, as the interior mounting takes up space and is a bit silly. Also its completely devoid of any kind of bars other than a kind of side impact kind of bar below the step thing that runs along the sides beneath the doors, pretending to be usefull..
Anyway.. My question, if youve read this far is about how to unscrew and rescrew the ignition/steering lock assembly back onto the steering column. You see, some little pile of faeces stole my wagon from work the other day. Luckily they did no damage other than the rear quarterlight glass( NZ$25 off trademe) and the ignition assembly (60 bucks from wrecker) then dumped it after writing all over the interior with a permant ink felt pen. Lucky for me they dumped it nearly outside my house but I was left with the problem of making it secure and fixing the ignition so i dont have to use a screwdriver to start it. (or giving anyone else the opportunity to either)
THe ignition assembly has bolts with no groove bits in the head for any screwdrivers to fit into.. its like they are just blank bolts..
How the hell, apart from cutting them) do i get them off and then put the replacement ones back in nice and tight again?
Just to be clear, I am talking about the bolts that hold together the two halves of the cast aluminium ignition assembly around the steering column... How the hell do i get these buggers off then back on tightly?
any help would be appreciated.. thanks
Glenn.

Theiving little gangsta wannbes.
as for the bolts. The are designed to be hard to get off. (to stop theft
Be easyer to let the little Ba$%^ds take it all off the just bolt it back on)
At factory they have a bolt head on them that snaps off at a preset torque. Need to cut the off and replaced. Not sure if you can get new ones or just use boults and round the heads off when tight.

Yeah id agree with you meatc about letting them have it and be able to screw it back on when or if you get it back.
either way they wont treat it how i would though. The cop that found it said i should connect a switch into the ignition wires somewhere so that when the switch is in on position and the key is turned the car will start as normal, and when the switch is in teh other position , it sends the power to the horn, so it beeps every time they try to start it.. sounded like a good idea to me, what do you think?
Wouldnt have stopped the damage, but might have stopped them taking it..

The old kill switch idea with a twist .... I love it !!
There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Done Done & Done
today i re-wired the kill switch on the landy, i bought a 2 way switch on thursday n jst got around to putting it in today, the switch cost me $10 n took about 30mins all up to put in n working, its a on - on switch, clicked to 1 side, the starter works as normal switch it to the other side n the horn goes every time u try to turn the key that extra bit for the starter to kick in
im glad i done it, i now just have to get a 13mm drill bit n make a hole to mount the switch into, will get to that in the next couple of days when i get to borrowing a drill & bit
