extrctors

Post by mikesj413 »

I have been told to put extrctors on my 413 (vitara motor). How important is it to get these and what are the chances of the head cracking? what do other people have?

From what I can remember:

The standard vitara exhaust manifold are a twin skin design with the inner skin sliding when it expands and contracts within the outer one (dont know why) but as they get older the sliding portion binds and start to bend. This inturn restricts air flow through them which causes heat buildup in the head and eventually the head gives up. They are about $265 from Mudbits on TMe (you may have another supplier in mind but I offered this just as a price guide) and will solve this little design problem and the bonus is the increase in power.

what type of exhaust have you got on it, if you are going to get extractors i would sugest going the whole hog and putting a larger exhaust system, as there is no point in getting better flow from the extractors and try to push it throuh a standard exhaust. I put extractors and a 2" exhaust with a free flow for $380.00 fitted. where abouts are you if close to me i can help you with fitting extractors

contact the guys over at pit stop in Hastings, they have done work for the Twin city club and are a great price they done the exhaust for me, i got my Extractors from Nigel when he was at DSl in Napier i paid 200 for them and 180 for exhaust fitted.
prices may have gone up since i done mine three years ago but shouldnt be by that much.If you want a hand fitting them just holla out.

puit a set on my cruiser with a 3FE got 10% increase in power dyno'ed the day before fitting then again a day after and as i said 10% increase could of got more but back then i didnt know about fuel injection units and didnt know about winding up the pump and fiddling with that side of things. well worth the effort as best as i can tell
cheers mudlva  8)
