Newbie with 84 surf

Post by mike.e »

Hey

Just purchased an 84 hilux surf today!

Image

Just wondering what further mods you think would add to the performance of the truck. It will probably eventually end up with a V8 but before that I'm looking at modding the suspension and drivetrain. I've been considering a diff lock, hopefully get a winch at some stage too. Just wondering what you all think?

Also any good places near Auckland to test it out? I'm new to off roading so am up for anything.

Was planning on testing it first, just had a bit of change from the purchase and was weighing up my options for upgrades. Just need to find a few good places near Auckland to go to. Its still in Christchurch at the moment hopefully it will be up here within a week or so.

Welcome to the site.
get it out and get dirty before you go changing anything. Find out what you want to improve or change and go from there.
If you search the Toyota part of the forum there are plenty of cheap and easy mods you can do. Just depends how far you want to go.

Nice looking rig.
Give it arseholes.
If anything breaks, fix it with something stronger.

Everything that can be done to them has been done and someone always has the answer.

Hey Windsurfer0206

I'll be keen for a play, gets here on monday hopefully. I have open diffs too i'll have to see how it goes but i'm considering going 4.8 lsd's or a locker, will have to see how it goes first. Got another mate with an 85 with lsd front and rear goes great so it'll be interesting to see how the opens go. ARB air locker would be nice if it wasn't for the price tag! Will send you a message when I'm planning on going out.
