rover guru in chch

Post by motivated »

I've got an under powered RR here that I purchased a short time ago. If theres some-one here that has a reasonable knowledge about them that wouldnt mind helping me sort this thing out I would appreciate it. I'm sure the motor is not that bad that it shouldnt have a reasonable amount of grunt. I've bin trying to work on it myself with a lack of knowledge and a lack of tools since some prick stole them from my garage. Just spent $600 rebuilding the front diff and steering box and a few other parts. Take off is pretty sad, but it runs nice 1st-4th, drop it into 5th around town and its no problem, but on the open road power drops off in 5th at 100k and it has to be dropped back into 4th. And suck gas, my 87 used about a 3rd of what this thing is using. I know these things get hungry, but theres definitely something wrong here.

Anyone know how to find the landrover club in canterbury ?

I dont want to be doing a heart transplant at this point, but if I need to I'll go to a 3.9. Just want to know thats the only choice before I go ahead.

Have a chat to Al at summit4wd.co.nz. He is a rover specialist and all round nice guy, should at least point you in the right direction.

Your wrong, I wouldnt like to go for a 3.9, I'D LOVE TOOOOOO !!!
All I need to do is find one cheap enough and in the sth island. I purchased a 94 Disco with plans of taking the 3.9 out of that but my lady took it off me, said I could have the zuk motor instead.

Its running twin su's

I think I might have found the problem. The other week I was checking the vacuum advance, all the leads were siliconed into the dizzy and coil and I distroyed the coil lead. I just took it for a drive today with a new lead and I think its running a lot better. Trouble is I cant remember what it was like before as its been a few weeks since I've had it on the road. Without a trailor on it seems to have reasonable pick up in 5th at about 90k. Cant really test it as I need some open road and trying to be discreet at 90k with a 2 1/2 inch exhaust in a 50k area aint easy, reg and warrant have expired so I'm not keen on going too far.

I'll test it with a trailor tomorrow and if I can notice a difference I'll get new plug leads aswell. The guy that owned this thing didnt know what he had, and sure as hell didnt appreciate it, at some stage some-one has done quite a bit of work on it.
