Were to go to change trafur case gear ratio?

Post by TPOV8farmer »

Does anyone know were to go to find about changing transfur case gear ratios or re gearing my gear box to make mosuitable for my use. Im running a toyota V8 and Ive takin my diff ratio from 4.875 to 4.3 and im running 33in tyres. My first gear has become as high as ill go but my 4th does take revs up enough ie. you can either go from second to 4th and hold 4th longer or go from 3rd to 5th as 5th so low as well. ( i hope this makes sence) So who would i go to to regear my gear box or transfur case? or would it be better swapping my gear box to a more suitable box?

Put bigger tyres on it
You can get 4.1 diff ratios as a factory setup, or have a look at Trailgears' site and if there is anything suitable there, order it from Jafa here.

Other option is ditch the manual and stick an auto in.

wont go near an auto! tires big enough and tryin to avoid going to 4.1 as the cost of my two 4.3's was enough.

Whats wrong with a modern auto? If properly set-up, they are as capable as anything else.

To make my tires bigger involves a body lift and spacing the wheels out with i dont want to do as is only a sweet looking road goer.

Like they said diffs or tyres are the easiest way to bring the gearing up

I have 33's on my 1UZ'd Surf with 4.5 diffs and wish I had 4.8's. Mine cruises fine at 100km's.

How many revs are you pulling?

That's acceptable, possibly a touch high but that's not bad.

I have 4.1 diff in my Soarer with a 1UZ and that does about 2300rpm at 100kph.

Are you actually going 100KMPH as youve changed diff ratio's etc....unless you have recalibrated your speedo it will be wrong ...you might need to borrow a GPS & check it .

speedo 20% out exactly, used to trailer they put out by the schools to tell you your speed so i drove around the block a few time hitting it at exactly 40 and the sign read back 50.
