Went down this road with mine. The motors just don't make power... period.

The only options as I see it are to remove the mechanical fan as that saps a considerable chunk of the available horsies, and maybe look at extractors although it would be costly as I couldn't find any off the shelf.

In the end, I did the Supra swap and had three times the go with the virtually the same economy (serious - I went from 4Y 350km's per tank to 5MG 320kms per tank...) And the whole car which provided everything I needed only cost me $500 - although you'll pay that for a bellhousing alone now!

They do run much smoother on LPG with about the same power output as petrol when tuned for the gas but thats no real improvement...

Can't think of anything else cunning that will make them go better - sorry, they're just a plodder motor... made for Hiluxes and Hiace vans.

The old 5M/7M setup will fit with "flippers" never heard IFS described that way before :)

The problem is you need a 50mm body lift to close the bonnet as the engine needs to sit quite high. And you can't use the mid/rear-bowl sump without (approx guess from fitting it to Conans truck) around 200mm of body lift :P

1JZ or 2JZ? Not sure, never fitted one... but seriously thinking of fitting one to my old Lux (since it appears the new owner of my Hilux has no money, therfore is not the new owner after all  :headshot: ) once the MU is rolling. Think one of the JZ series motors would make one hell of a donk for an offroader.

Yea my truck has flippers but I want to change it to early Prado with coils when I have a few more readies. I think I would rather put a V6 Common door in as it is easier & they are a dime a dozen. However I have just blown my budget on a set of 32 x 10.5 Simexs and now I can't use 5th gear that often & she don't hold back that well on step decents. I've got 4.8 diffs, electric fan & I'm looking at extractors. Been thinking about maybe fitting a blower off an MR2?? Any thoughts. Am I crazy? You don't have to answer that.

Its been tried... I don't know of any where it was successful tho. Maybe talk to Dave at Falsgrave 4WD spares in chch as I think he may know something about it...

Really tho, for what you will spend and for what little you will achieve, just buy Pinkys truck and be done with it :) Or just buy his motor...
