Bucket Seats?

Hi there. I'm an absolute newbie to 4WDing and have recently aquired a '94 Vitara. It is stock standard, complete with road tyres (I believe the unofficial term is 'a Shiney' ) The first thing I'd like to do is replace the bloody awful front seats with ones that have more support. Can anyone recommend bucket seats that will fit in without too much hassle and won't raise any eyebrows at the next WOF? Also, please excuse my ignorance , will I have to get certification if I change the seats? Many thanks!!

you can go to wreckers and get buckies out of a jappa or you could get reclinable race type seats like these................

as far as I'm aware, if you use the factory seat rails then you don't need a cert

at the end of the day as long as you use the standard zuk mounts and not move them you will be fine what ever is put into it.

I'm fairly sure that you cannot put a fixed back seat into a 3 door car, because the only way into the back seat is thru the front.

now he never said that it was 3 or 5 door, so I'm just assuming, but I think there are issues pertaining to fixed back seats in any car.

there must be someone on here who has done it or knows the legality of it.

I would be interested to know as one day I wish to replace my front seats too

Yes, it is a 3dr and I'm resonably sure I'll need recliners to keep it legal for the road. I'll find out for sure and post the answer here for those who are interested.

It'll be interesting to see what will bolt straight on... Anything has got to be better than the standards! I'll keep you updated as to what I decide on.

Hey! How you goin? It was good meeting you that day.
Yeah they're abit too girly-girl for a 4WD!! But then, I kinda like them so they're staying, for now anyway!
Looking forward to heading up Thompsons again, tho now that we've had the rain I may have to wait until I get mud tyres!!

Im sure if you get stuck, some one will tow you out, so you wont need them offforad tyres,
You should also find out what your sizuki can do befor you start to spend lots of money on it, like what i did:D lol

It was an add in a racing mag they had on the counter.... I'll grab a copy if I get home in time tomorrow

Hey thanks, 86-surf! I've only been off roading twice - once as a passenger and the second time as driver up Thompsons the other week. It's very different from nana-driving to work and back in a car!!!

Ive only been actual offroading twice. once i was driving like a nana at the ore bbq in hamilton because i was to scared i was going to brake somthing, And then agian the other week up at thommas track or what ever its called, and broke a few bits but nothing major, And then every other time i just been at a farm which tourt me a few things.

But it's all good fun And worth the broken bits(most of the time)

as for seats i think if you got a pair of zooky swift seats they should (im pretty sure ) bolt streight in and they are very nice sporty seats with good wrap and support.

as for tyres if your going to get some make sure you let us know as most of the hamilton crew buy tyres from certian people and we get VERY good deals

I'm going to have a ring-around to see if any of the wreakers have some Swift seats, they sound ideal. And I'll certainly be in touch when it is time to get tyres, tho that may be a while away.

Hey, for those who are interested:

Generally you won't need certification when you change the seats if you use the original rails and don't make any mods to them. Also, the seats have to be proper automotive seats and, if you own a 3dr, reclinable. Please note that the protocols may be different for a vehicle with airbags (of which mine doesn't have).

This is just a general overview so you may want to check with your local expert.
