longfeild hilux cvs

Post by cool__bananas »

hi all, can anyone give me an idea on how much load you can put a longfeild hilux cv under? because we were thinking about running hilux instead of 80series cvs to keep weight down, is a longfeild cv stronger than a 80 series? thanks

i dont think there is a conversion, it just depends on the motor, and alos that chart would include spinning gearbox and wheels etc?

I think the answer you are looking for is that the Longs are considerably stronger than the 80-series CVs. They are made from a far stronger material.

80 series is a standard Toyota one, the longfields are stronger than toyota ones, better designed as well (the ones I have seen)

Well I guess either you believe us or you don't. If you don't, then why ask?

an 80 series CV is the exact same design and only slightly bigger in OD,same 27spline inner and same size star, just a bigger outer and made of the exact same material as any other toyota CV.yes stronger than a standard hilux CV....

a longfield is made of(you have to have read all the info?) 4340 chromoly which is much stronger and has smaller CV balls which means the bell can be much thicker and the star is much thicker also... then you can get the 30 spline longfields which has a ...30 spline which as we all know is stronger and again has even more strength again than the allready super strong standard longfield CV....which make it like this...

IF you can break it,they will replace it

am i making myself clear ?

i have 30 splines

Have been running with the LOngfield 30-spline superset (axls + CV's) for three years now - never looked back.

It may be of interest to you to note that Longfield also manufacture heavy duty CV's for the 80 Series.

If you want the best set up, then obviously you go for 80 series longfields

If you change housings, and go hilux, make sure you also purchase their super strong hub gears. I blew a std asin hub gear last time I was out and it will strip the spline of the longfield birf (and if you are not using their hub gears, this is not covered under warranty). I must admit that it took a lot of pressure to blow the hub gear though.
Oh, and make sure you spend the money and buy the 30 spline super set, one of the boys down here thought he could get away with just getting the 27 spline birfields, and now he constantly (under stress of course) breaks axles off instead.

its going to be in a trials truck with a done up ls6, and because its rear steer its going to have cvs in the rear. at the moment my current truck has 80 series all round, so we were looking at running the hilux LF cvs to make it lighter because the whole hub is smaller. but if they are weaker then we wont bother changing, but from what ive heard now they should be strong enough

Give Warren at Jeffery Mechanical in Porrirua a call, he has 2 sets of Longs in a rear steer trials truck. he'll tell ya how much abuse he's given them and how much they love it  We can supply them for $1050 per set (30spline superaxle set, inc birf and axles)
Cheers
