escudo front hub change

Post by Weemsy »

i want to change the front hubs on my v6 scud so i can get 15 inch wheels on, and the calipers, discs etc are too big.
does anyone know if it is a straight hub swap, or are there more (or less?) splines on the v6 drive shafts than the 1600 drive shafts, or are they bigger diameter etc?
looking at it, i think need the hub assembly, disc and caliper, just wondering if i need anything else?
also, are they a pain in the arse to do, or just a straight swap? any tricks to doing it?
one last thing, do samurai manual locking hubs fit a scud?
cheers

cant you just change down to the 3 door calipers and rotors to get 15" rims on? Of course that then changes the brakes so it would need certifying.

give shane @ te puke partsworld a call who specialise in suzuki wrecking, will dig up his number/email if you can't find it elsewhere...

He knows about this sort of stuff and will sell you the parts you need (or at least tell you if you want to find them elsewhere)... he may even buy/swap you for your old bits??

mine is the 3 door and the 16 inch wheels only just cover the calipers. ive been told the rotor centres are bigger on the v6's, meaning i have to change the hub, however that could be wrong?????? mine's a 95 facelift model if that makes any difference?

will get in touch with te puke parts world, he advertises on TM so may get his number through that???
thanks lads

rang parts world this morning and they told me that the conversion cant be done??
he said the complete front axle/suspension set up was totally different and isnt inter-changeable to fit 15's.
ah well, any one have any 30/9.5/16 muddies they want to trade with some 31/10.5/15's?
cheers

Hmmm , I have heard of people doing it but it may be on the first generation escudo's . As the 5dr 16v had 16 inch wheels . Try looking on outerlimits in ausie .

What about machining the centre of the wheel out a little? or is it the caliper that is the problem also.

Yeah its a piece of cake. I did the swap in one night. Just remember though that it is a modification of the factory vehicle so it will need to be certified to be 100% road legal. anymore questions just give me a yell. 8)

cheers truck fixer but im selling the scudo!!
i decided it was going to cost me too much to do all the mods as well as bumpers, bars, lift kit etc. plus its a really tidy truck, seems a shame to wreck it!!!
im after a cheaper truck, preferably another suzuki, but anything considered!!!!
thanks again mate, really appreciate the offer.

haha, 'improving' is what i meant, just a typo.
as for the money, need a cheaper truck so the money left over can go towards 'improvements'. :D
plus, i could do with a 5 door escudo/vitara as i would like the extra space. my lady thinks for comfort  , i think for a bag of straps, a jack, shovel, compressor....................

hey truck fixer!!
i might change my mind on the escudo if it doesnt sell soon.
did you have any problems doing the strut top flip because of the brace across the top??
i have seen people say to enlarge the holes to alter the camber also, but that doesnt look too easy either. again because of that strut brace.
has anyone altered the camber by any other method, camber bolts, professional steering outfit etc etc????
cheers

Can anyone answer this question. I am new to ORE. I have found out that the front disks off a 5 door 1600 are vented and 3 door are solid. My 3door v6 has vented disks. Should I be finding vented disks or would solid disks be OK?

hey tom.
after getting all prepped ready to lift the v6 at the weekend, and even bought a lsd rear diff for it, :D :D along comes a little old man and wants to buy it!!! good job the guy i was buying front dics/hubs/rotors/shafts/stubs the complete assembly ready to bolt on hasnt replied. :?
if it goes in the morning then il be looking for a 5dr 1600 i think. definately sticking with zook's, ive grown quite fond of them, especially seeing what some of the lads on here have done to theirs for very little money. very little money is a word im used to saying!! haha
if anyone knows of an early shape 1600 5dr going cheap (must be road legal and road worthy) then please let me know, it will be appreciated.
by the way.....8 valve efi or 16??

Sounds great! I like my 5 door for the space (would be hard pressed to fit a deer or 2 and all my and my mates hunting gear in a 3 door).
So you will be looking for something along the lines of this...
http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 370588.htm
Quite a good price for the km's it has, and its a Auto. There is some debate about what valve - there are threads on here about this (somewhere lol)

Yes, DEFINITELY put extractors on!

By the way, did your slippery diff go with the old 3-door, or did you keep it?

hey Ineil
nah, still got it. sold the v6 BEFORE i bought the slippery, but had made a promise to the guy and he had taken it out of his truck to meet me half way so i kept my promise.
buying another zook though :D . a 5 door 1600.
are you interested in buying the slippery? :?: if it works out that i dont need it?

by the way......any other things that i should look out for, or mods that you recommend before i go buying things that i dont really need? ive already got the lift springs and longer rear shocks that i was going put on the v6, and i know about hooks front and rear. any other (money restricted!! ) ideas?
