Also my car insurance company came back and gave me a high premium and excess because of the theft risk! I didn't think there was much of a theft risk with 19y/o safari's!

The premium is twice the cost of both of my cars. Which are highly modified....I just don't get insurance co's sometimes.

And i work for one!

just remember that its turbo'ed they arent easy to get either, so may be worth the money to get those previous problems patched up, a couple of those you should be able to do yourself?? my insurance is about $400 a year but under 25 with a 4x4, insurance company's dont tend to like.

Apparently Safaris are being targeted for parts etc now to. Dude at work was telling me he saw it in the paper. A guy had his Saf parked up with forsale signs on it and someone stole a door and I think the bullbars as well off it. I have my insurance set up through my old man with me down as the primary driver. Works out way cheaper.

Those are small problems you can easily fix yourself. The front axle could do with a rebuild though, easy job done in a day. It has three coil spacers to compensate for spring sag and get truck sitting level. Change the suspension and it will ride right. Oil out back of vacuum pump=worn O ring again an easy fix. AC will be bearing plus needs regassing. Don't let these small issues put you off a good reliable strong truck. Try barleys for 4wd insuranmce or AMI. And yes safaris are being stolen to order in chch at the moment, friend of mine lost hers a few weeks ago.

Like others have said, those are easy fix problems, and for the price it sounds like it may be a good starting point.

Cheers for the info guys, I should be able to fix the vacuum pump myself if its just a case of an o-ring. AC pump doesn't bother me...haven't had a car with one in a while.

The main thing that put me off is both the front hubs/bearings are stuffed and yet the owner has had them fixed numerous times recently but they are still not right. The owner was going to go back the their mechanic to see what the story is, haven't heard back yet.

Regarding the spring sag, how available are new standard height or raised springs?

I will have to look into insurance a bit more because the premium I was quoted was $665 and theft excess of $1400. Which is pretty bad because its double the premium and excess of my 320hp highly modified club car aswell as the other road car which is rare as hens teeth/saught after and popular with 'drifting' ... didn't make much sense to me :|

Its a sad day when even oldish 4wd's are being targeted for theft  It makes me sick.

Im 24 though so the magic 25y/o insurance bracket applies.

aftermarket raised springs are readily available through any 4wd shop. Go with a 2-3" lift. You can then fit 35"tyres on. Don't go for standard as they will cost more then aftermarket if bought new. I know 4wd accessories in CHCH have some sharp deals on TJM suspeneion at the moment. Give them a call or look in your yellow pages. Also go the the patrol forum(oz based) and do a search. Heaps of info there as well.

Sorry to dissapoint you Nissan guys  :)

I'll put a post somewhere about it, once I find the correct section on the forum (man there are a lot!)
