How can we make it harder for the thieves
We need to do all that we can to our trucks to make them as difficult as possible to steal in the first place.
Things like ...
Alarms with immobilizers with decent screamers INSIDE the cab.
Hidden kill switches.
Window engraving.
When you make up custom bars weld patterns etc onto the bars where it would be hard to get a grinder.
And then there is alway the big dog.
and park beside an easier target
Another interesting thing that I found today was a battery isolator that has fully enclosed terminals with 4 mounting holes and a removable knob.
My plan is to mount it somewhere that is difficult to smash open and short out. the alarm will be feed from the battery side of the switch.
What do you do ??

There is no mechanical problem so difficult that it cannot be solved by brute strength and ignorance.

Imoblisers etc are all good for stopping them taking your vehicle but unfortunatly it doesn't stop them making a mess trying.
Best prevention is to park it some where secure (garage, locked yard etc). This still won't stop them if they really want it. There have been plenty of vehicles targeted. I know of one where they broke into a panel shop (one the one weekend the live in owner was away) wrecked the ignitions for 4 cars to move them (keys were in the shop) and took an american muscle car.
If you have something special/nice and do public display events take the plates off to make it harder for thiives to identify and address for. Also reg your vehicles to a P.O. Box address. It is way to easy to get reg owner info from the post office.
Keep your toys hidden. this includes anything inside. Stereos, subs, computors, ipods, phones, wallets etc all add to the appeal for the random thief. Big wheels are becoming as popular as big mags with low profiles. 1 set for play one set for the public to see regularly (cheap small). If you have to park it public go really public with lots of people and well lite if at night. Last of all insure it. Murphys Law if its not insured it'll get nicked.

Yeah the shotgun theory sounds pretty good to me but I don't think the cops will go for it. If someone really wants to steal your truck they probably will, you just need to take precautions against opportunist thieves. Lock it in your shed, Don't park it on the street. The worst thing is if your a hunter having to leave your truck at the end of a road somewhere while you go bush. My brother came back to find his marvie broken into and all his spare clothes gone at the end of a trip in the Tararuas.
Nothings a problem if you don't give a f#ck.

i know its simple, but if you park with the 4wd gear shifter in neutral it may take a while for a theaf to figure out that they need to move the 4wd shifter into a drive gear before they can drive away.
thinking back to my d21 terrano days, if you turned the ignition on while the 4wd shifter was in neutral it would be locked in neutral until your turned the car off, and shifted the 4wd shifter. always thought it might fool an amature criminal.

It would be a good idea for vehicles that have functioning handbrakes!!!!!! Transfer case in neutral means you are 100 percent relying on the handbrake to keep your vehicle stopped (not always possible on inclines).

It would still be true for an auto! Typically transfer case sits behind the transmission. So if the transfer case is in neutral, there is no drive connection between the transmission (be it manual or auto) and the driveshafts.

hahah that sounded like a briliant idea, untill i clicked that my hand brake dont even work on flats

i never leave my car in gear hangover from driving a truck with air assisted gear shift bitch to get them into neutral when you start them without any air in the tank

battery isolaters from repco etc if your 24v get 2 only 10 bucks or something,if your in a dodgy area unscrew them and take them with you

Good to know I am not the only one. Doesn't matter how much the rear ones are adjusted, it only lasts a couple of days.

Simple.....we smash both kneecaps of anyone caught stealing.
It will then make it much easy to spot a theif....they will all be limping around the place.

today i re-wired the kill switch on the landy, i bought a 2 way switch on thursday n jst got around to putting it in today, the switch cost me $10 n took about 30mins all up to put in n working, its a on - on switch, clicked to 1 side, the starter works as normal switch it to the other side n the horn goes every time u try to turn the key that extra bit for the starter to kick in. im glad i done it, i now just have to get a 13mm drill bit n make a hole to mount the switch into, will get to that in the next couple of days when i get to borrowing a drill & bit

A quick Anti theft thing i do if my truck is going to be parked up is i remove all the wheel nuts off one wheel ,it will sit there quite happily unless its moved .

Got a Daihatsu Something, hasn't got a Daihatsu engine.... or diffs.... and it doesn't have windows.... or doors.... but its got tyres....
